Re: OMG - A Guitar Solo on MTV

The Darkness are okay but I get bored with them..

In the Netherlands there's a music channel "The box" with "On the roxx". The new Deicide video was on it like 10 times

        I think so at least.

Here's a video of some dudes from a friend's college performing in their talent show, covering "I Believe In A Thing Called Love".

Give me The Darkness any day of the week over the nu-metal junk we've been subjected to over the past few years.

Yes, they're flamboyant, and yes, they have superb showmanship. It's rock n' roll. I'm entertained by it, so that's all that matters.

What's wrong with falsetto vocals? Too girly? Doesn't Rob Halford sing half the time with falsetto?

I think I will actually go buy their CD.

Re: OMG - A Guitar Solo on MTV

It my fav CD of the year so far. It fun, silly, and I can't help myself picking up the guitar and jamming to it. Somewhere along the way many numetal bands forgot that they were supposed to be entertainers as well. BTW.. at one gig, I started playing Thing Called Love and the chicks on the dance floor had that "Pour Some Sugar on Me" look from the 80's. Like they were so close to taking it all off. Whoo! Hoo!

I like listening to some newer metal but it doesn't work live in my area. If you play that stuff, you're stuck doing coffee shops for highschool kids and splitting $100 + Latte coupons between the band members. I've fulfilled that part of life 15-20 years ago.

if you do not like them, just do yourself a favor and look them up on ticketmaster and go see their show near you. They are on their first major US tour right now. Open your minds. I have said this before, and I will say it again, they have an awesome live show and you will definitely feel you have gotten your money's worth.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Yeah indeed, to me it seems more like pop with a twist.

And how bout the stories that the singer has tried to sell his soul for the band to go "big time" ...guess he succeded

Re: OMG - A Guitar Solo on MTV

I urge anyone who's dismissed these guys because of the vocals to just give the disc a few listens.

I love the Darkness -- I got into them because I stumbled across their CD in a store that lets you listen to stuff before you buy. I put it in, heard the first few riffs of "Black Shuck", and thought -- "This is my new favorite band." Had a guitar sound I haven't heard from a new band in years. Then the dude starts singing, and I'm thinking it's Freddy Mercury meets Geddy Lee meets Tiny Tim: Not my cuppa joe.

But there was something about it I couldn't get past...the riffs, the sound, something -- so the next 3 times I went into the store I listened to it again. Finally I just said WTF and bought it --- and it hasn't been out of my CD player since.

They're gonna be huge, guys, and deservedly so. It's good old fashioned hard rock, and it kicks ass. Plus, when you figure songs like "You're Really Growing on Me" are about sexually transmitted diseases, you just gotta laugh and stick your devil horns in the air.

My two or three cents. Thanks for listening.

I posted about this band a couple of monthes ago when the video first aired. Some of the JCF'ers in england told me i wouldn't be disappointed with the cd. They were right. No falsetto is not my cup of tea, they aren't metal they are a good rock band. I would much rather listen to someone sing falsetto over a good driving rhythem in a normal tuning than listen to someone growl and scream over a droning low tuned guitar.
