I love King Diamond, Rob Halford, Ray Alder from Fates Warning, and Warrel Dane from Nevermore, but they don't do the falsetto as much any more these days. They use it sparingly, but they never sounded fruity doing it. Okay, KD still does it a lot, but he's always sounded cool.

Justin from The Darkness has a decent normal voice, the falsetto just seems like too much of a joke when he's doing it, IMO. Though, they're rockin' and having a good time, kicking in some old-school rock vibes, which is cool, but I don't think I'll be picking up their album.

Rob Halford still does a LOT of that really high falsetto... Halford's "Crucible" has substantially more falsetto than "Resurrection".

I hadn't really listened to any Halford since he left JP and when I finally did, I'm like WTF? Doesn't he sing low anymore? I wanna hear his full range, not just the top end

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I actually never got either of those albums, just heard bits and pieces here and there. I did get the Live Resurrection, though.

Re: OMG - A Guitar Solo on MTV

"Live Insurrection" certainly is my favourite of the three Halford releases, and one of the greatest live CDs I've ever heard.

Rob does growl a very little bit... I think there's some in "Into The Pit" by Fight and by Halford on the "Live Insurrection" release. I don't ever recall him growling before that. Even Paul Di'Anno (former Iron Maiden frontman) is getting himself into more aggressive vocals lately (with growling on the www.pauldianno.com audio clip for "Killers").

Oops, I meant Live Insurrection instead of Ressurection. And, yes, it's a killer live album. Haven't listened to it in awhile, so I guess I should dig it out.

I wouldn't have been surprised if Rob wanted to continue the rhyming titles... "Resurrection", then "Live Insurrection", then "E-Rection".

"Thing Called Love" by The Darkness is the absolute best song and video that has been aired on MTV and VH-1 in years!!!!! Period!!!

I watched their new video today, "love is only a feeling" It's just as cheesy. These guys can play though, and that's saying alot mroe than most popular music these days.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">That's all most people need. It's just a relief to see people actually playing instruments after being subjected to the recent state of new rock and alternative. I am hoping more (and better) bands will follow suit! I don't have a problem with falsetto singing. It takes a real man to sing soprano . King Diamond, Ray Alder, Russel Allen, James LaBrie, and Warrel Dane are all good examples.
