I could not agree more.I still still remeber going to see Ozzy with unknown Metallica as the opening act. They blow Ozzy off the stage that night.

I think Kirk took lessons from joe satriani before he was even in metallica

I puked when they put out the video for ONE for MTV and they cut it all to shreds. Meanwhile they let Axle Rose spew his BS for 11 minutes. That certainly wasn't the Metallica who built a very loyal fanbase saying they would never compromise.

I agree, I remember them always saying they would NEVER do a video and as soon as Cliff was gone they started the downward spiral. I have fond memories of the early days though, I saw them with Cliff 3 times and I count myself as lucky.

I saw that too, it was funny cause Ozzy was in a really glam stage then, I mean really glam! Those 22 year olds came out and killed the fucking place! I remember being on the side and watching Cliff and James slamming vodka down while the acoustic intro to Battery was playing over the PA, the cutain dropped and James went center stage and started the Battery riff at hyper speed! Whoo-hoo! Good times!

Wow, the 3 times I saw Metallica back in the 80's was mediocre at best. There was always something going on with thier sound, even at Monsters of Rock. Either Kirks guitar would cut out or someone was out of tune or they were just out of sync. Could be that I never got the chance to see them with Cliff.

I never saw them with Cliff. AJFA tour rocked the house, Black Album tour bored me to tears. I knew a guy back in college who saw them at a small theater in Portland, Oregon on the Ride The Lightning tour and said they were unbelievable intense. He said they played "Fight Fire With Fire" faster than the album version, which was pretty unthinkable back in those days.

That song isn't as bad as the stuff on St Anger, but still. It lacks. All that aggression they had in their songs and on stage presence just isn't there anymore.

Compare that new video to this

The very beginning reminds me of The Haunted.

The riff that starts at about :58 sounds like the riff from Rock Lobster. James channeling the B52's?

100%. They were just bad ass back then and lookie! Kirk can't find his wah until the very end =). They are not even as good as a metallica cover band now.

I think they really need to hang it up. =(
                              Insert annoying equipment list here....

Wow, probably the first live video of Metallica i've seen where I wouldn't describe Lars's drumming as "sloppy as fuck".
