I think it's kind of funny to criticize a band for being a one-hit wonder, anyway. One hit is one more hit than I've got! I'd be happy to be a one-hit wonder.

"One-hit wonder" refers exclusively to singles success, which isn't a very good indicator for hard rock acts that are album-driven.

QR was indeed a 'one-hit' wonder. I don't believe that "Metal Health" was a huge hit as a single, and neither was "Mama We're All Crazy Now." As far as albums, they were sort of a 1.5 hit wonder, since Condition Critical was considered a commercial flop.

Hendrix even made that list. Face it they were grabbing at straws.

I'd believe that. I remember all 3 songs being briefly played on the radio over here, but I don't know what sort of chart success they enjoyed.

I think the enjoyment for people with this kind of list or programme is partly in being reminded of those groups that had their 15 minutes of fame before blipping off the radar forever into obscurity, and partly in seeing those hugely famous bands that everyone assumes were big hitmakers but in fact had very little chart success.

Plenty of successful & popular bands haven't been huge in the singles charts. I wouldn't get worked up about it.

singles aren't THAT important IMHO, the album sales are.
James Jamerson has has played on about 100 No1 hits, how many people know him? Pink Floyd didn't had many chart topping singles, yet they have sold bazillion albums and a lot of people know who they are.

Led Zeppelin never released a single - albums only.

"Hit Charts" are not a good indicator of a band's popularity. They're there for the small-minded pop-culturalists to have something to talk with their small-minded pop-culturalist friends about. Kinda like Rolling Stone.

it's cool to be on the charts with a single, those singles are usually pretty popular and get a lot of airplay and it's a good way to spread your music to more people but single alone is pretty worthless.

Stairway To Heaven was never released as a single yet it's the most played tune ever in mainstream radios.

+1 and yet, they continue to play it live. Drives me crazy! For the last two tours they've done a great job of playing songs they haven't done in years (Vital Signs, Between The Wheels, Xanadu, etc.) but they've played that damn song on BOTH tours! They could be playing another one of their great, "lost" classics instead of that song. Like Something For Nothing, Circumstances, Entre Nous, there are so many to choose from. Oh well, still my favorite band of all time.

Edit - and yeah, I don't think they're too worried about only having one "hit" single as they stare at their 20+ consecutive gold or better albums. Tied with KISS and only behind The Beatles and Stones.

I just always kinda thought it was funny that the 2 Quiet Riot songs that seemed to me to be the biggest success were both Slade covers.

I never really liked any QR songs that Slade didn't write

interesting, isn't it, that a band of Zeps stature seems to have broken the Top 20 on only 2 occasions?

So whatever happened to them after that #4 with Whole Lotta Love? Just disappeared.....Did they keep playing or did they break up?

Yeah, and Slade had a minor hit in the late 80's. I can't remember the song title, but I remember the video getting a lot of play on MTV.

I think it was run runaway actually. Maybe they can cover that and have another hit.
