  • Randy's Les Paul Custom....

...the white one. Anyone know what year it is?

The reason I ask is on behalf of a friend of mine who is collecting all things Randy and wants a white LPC the same year as his. I've mentioned in the past that I'm good friends with Chelsea Constable and her dad, Greg, and I told them I'd ask the RR experts here. He probably had more than one, but Delores and his brother Kelly have one of his white ones that they say was his main one. Greg asked them the serial# and they wouldn't tell him. Kelly said he thought it was a late 60's model.

    Anybody got a clue?

I've heard conflicting stories on this. I think it was an early to mid '70's LPC, but not 100% on that.

1974 would be the 20th anniversay LP. Gibson places the shipping totals for '74 White LP's around 2000 units, and in '75 it dropped to less than 250 units.
The '74's had the pancake body with neck-volute and small body binding on the horn. Standard electronics. Pre-kluson tuners if I recall.

3-5K average sell depending on condish and about $2500. for a good refin.

Its a custom so it wont have the Klusons anyway. They should be the Gibson keystone tuners. I thought i red some where it was a 1958 custom. all oroginal. I couldve swore it was in that Guitar Player with the Randy interview in it. I'll have to track it down again.

You think a '74 would be that high? That was pretty much Gibson's low point in terms of quality. I see late '70s LPs all the time for under $2k.

20th Anniversary amps and guitars were all in white and the perception is that a 33 year old LP is valuable. Same idea as the 70's Strats- real POS guitars but going for lots. It's funny-if you were a player back in the early 70's like me, you remember how crappy those guitar really were- now they're touted as 'great'guitars and good investments.
Check ebay completed listings for a feel on price.

I've heard 1974 as well. I think that was the first year you could get a custom in a color other than black.
