Steve Stevens is one of the most underated players out there.

Check out this demo clip of the the Suhr Badger with him playing a Les Paul...

Awesome! Steve Stevens is such a tasty player. Pretty underrated, IMO.

What recordings did he ever rock out like that on? Can't be any Billy Idol stuff (except for maybe rebel yell!).....

If you check out his Atomic Playboys disc from 1989 and also "Flamenco A Go-Go" from 2000, you are treated to some amazing stuff that proves how underated Steve really is. And if you think Flamenco is "the softer side of Steve" you are in for a real suprise. You can actually find Flamenco on Rhapsody.

he totally owns on Vince Neil's first solo cd, Exposed, from 1993. from metal gain to jazzy tones, to shredding on acoustic, all done with commanding technique.

that was the album that woke me up to how killer of an all-around player Stevens is.

he used to play in Central Park and knock out Jeff Beck tunes to the tee way before he joined billy Idol. he has been great since forever.
Not helping the situation since 1965!

Great player who never really got his due. His only big mis-step IMO was the Jerusalem Slim album where he essentially sounded like a George Lynch clone (his playing was still good...just not very original). Every other thing that he's released has been top notch.

I think the association with Idol was dentrimental to his career.
Who takes Billy Idol seriously, anyway?

Steve is a GREAT player who seems to have taken a back seat from a marketing standpoint. I think I read somewhere that when Idol last went on tour and asked Steve he was practically destitute...

He has had a very successful career, and a lot of that has to do with Billy Idol, not despite of it.
