  • Hendrix. When I started playing, I wanted to sound like Hendrix.

Now that I've been playing for a while, I want to sound like Hendrix on speed

Other than Jimi, my other sources of inspiration for guitar work include:
Jag Tanna from I Mother Earth (great tone, great tasteful playing)
Jake E. Lee (a freakin' monster!)
    EVH (duh)
    Satch
    Kirk Hammett/James Hetfield

I just noticed. It's because it was Yngwie J. Malmsteen on the cover of Rising Force, to me.

                            • I picked up a guitar because of Tommy Shaw.

I immediately gravitated towards Alex Lifeson and Angus Young as their music turned out to be more fun to play than Styx.

Other idols are Randy Rhoads and John Petrucci, but sadly, I haven't the talent to play like them.

I've recently gotten into Elliot Easton from The Cars, and just spent some time tonight practicing the solos to Dangerous Type and You're All I've Got Tonight.

On bass, it's all about Geddy Lee.

On keyboards, I tend to practice Geddy Lee, Tony Banks (Genesis), and any TSO stuff I find interesting.

On Drums, which I haven't been playing for very long, it's really anything I think I can play along to. I love Neil Peart and Mike Prtnoy, but that kind of playing will never happen for me. My drummer buddy says I have a good internal clock. I can live with that.
