I guess I'm going against the grain here but my favorite Eddie Solo was the one in "When it's love" where he basically played his own version of Clapton's solo of "Sunshine of your love" proving that he was also a master of playing short and simple stuff.

Remember chilling tone, like on "Mean Streets, "Fire"... Me wise Magic"
"black and Blue" (even though its Sammy!) "Cradle will Rock"...
In my book EVH is the 2nd most important guitar influence right behind
Jimi. Maybe only 4 or 5 guitarists actually changed the way the world
plays guitar, and Eddies certainly one of them.

You can tell where I stand by my JCF name - "EVHwannabe". For me, there is Ed, and then there is everyone else at a distant second. As someone else said, there are faster guitarists, but for me, Ed just has "it" like no other guitar player I've ever heard. I still get amazed every time I put on any of the VH albums and really listen to his playing, and not just the leads; he is an amazing rhythm player - if you can call it that. Sometimes I think his notoriety for tapping over shadows how incredible he is at phrasing, vibrato, rhythm, and normal (non-tapping) lead work. His tone has always been incredible. For me, I can listen to and be amazed by many players - Hendrix, Beck, Via, etc., but I always end up returning to Ed.

Oh man,,,my favorite overall guitarist EVER. I only rag on him now cuz it blows my mind how someone who was born to play like that could let themselves go like he has,,,to the point of making a fool of himself. I've heard many bands and players trying to play his parts or cop his riffs,,,and no matter who it is,,no one sounds like Ed except for Ed. He has a voice on the guitar, a passion and perfection in his playing like no one ever had. So to see his state today,,,and to see him live in 2004,,,,,in that state and playing like that.......what a shame. There may be some faster, etc...but no one packs the magic and coolness, or can hide the fact that he influenced them. Even Randy Rhoads had an obvious Eddy influence in his playing. And if he could just get it together,,,,he could be like a Vai today.....getting the respect he deserves and still on top of his game. So the fact that he let himself go angers all of us.
