  • Well i wasted most of an evening with Winger

Now before i begin my rant, remember im 52, so i dont have much patience, and i wish all concerts in the middle of the week started at
5 pm!! So i check out Winger last night at Martini Ranch in Scottsdale,
Arizona. First time ive ever seen them live. Unfortunately, they have
an opening act, that was actually better! Michael Nitro. Great sound,
not too loud, and very reminescent of 38 special southern rock.
Then around 9:40 Pm (when i wish the night had been over, cause
us employed guys have to go to work at 4AM!)
Winger hits the stage. One of the roadies kept telling the sound man
to "turn up" Kips mic, so that overall, the Winger sound was way too loud,
too muddy, and overly distorted. If they would have turned it down in
1/2, imo it would have been perfect.
Plus, whats with playing nothing but "the new album for the first 70 minutes??
I left after standing on concrete for 3 hours and did not hear 17,
Madelline, Headed for a Heartache... only got to hear 8 songs off of the
" new " album which sucks! Only 1 rocker in the bunch.
Distorted crappy, way too loud sound, and all new material. Reb barely ripped, and his French newbee 2nd guitarist kicked his ASS!
Anyway, sorry for the rant, but not every ticket buyer is a SLAYER
fan! (by that i mean unemployed with the next day off, from doing moms
laundry!) (Im sure im making lots of new friends with this one!
I hope Queensryches new "greatest hits" concert coming in a couple
months is close to their 93' concert which was fantastic! Quit with the
"New Album" forced down our throats, and do like RUSH does... they mix
in 1 new one with 4 solid hits, so that the fans stay "stoked". Thanks
for hearing me out... On a scale from 1 to 10...only because of Michael
    Nitro, it gets a 5. '-((

Nothing worse than the has-been groups (and I mean that with all due respect. I LOVE Ratt, Winger, Dokken, etc.) playing they're new music which always lacks compared to the old stuff.

I DON'T WANT TO HEAR YOUR NEW SHIT!!!

I never understood why they don't get it. The only time the crowd gets crazy is when they play the old stuff. Then they go into the studio and what do they do? Make a record "showing their maturity". Fuck that, make some more kick ass shit like in the old days, that what EVERYONE wants...

and oh yeah, heard clips of the new Winger and I agree, it blows...

That's why I always love going to see Bon Jovi. I'm guessing there's not a lot of people on here who particularly like them but I always have and best of all, whenever they do a live show they only play two or three songs off the 'new' album, most of the stuff they do is from the 'Slippery...', 'New Jersey', and 'Keep The Faith' albums (their best three IMO), so Jon and the guy's clearly know what people have come expecting to hear!

      And on the 8th day,
God kicked back with a beer,
And gave that Jackson one helluva beating!

look from the artist's point of view, they get tired playing all the same shit again and again... and this is the reason why they are accomplished musicians, the desire to try new things ......not limiting themselves and reapeting the same old stuff 10 times again.

hopefully the artists enjoy playing in basements then.

Winger's new stuff must really blow if you liked Michael Nitro.
I never could stand that arrogant SRV-wannabe SOB.

I never said I didn't want to hear GOOD new stuff (Dokken's actually done some half decent stuff since the 80's, "Dysfunctional" excluded).

                My point is this...

Take Winger for example. Most likely a Winger fan digs the first 2 records. They don't want to hear Winger's new stuff which is:

                a) boring & b) political in nature

I love old Ratt, and I love the blues, but I don't want to go see Ratt playin' the blues...

I saw Kip Winger solo about 5 or 6 years ago... he said he'd never play 17 again since he's too old and it's just not right to sing about a 17-year-old. :ROTF:

Nah, nah... Just invert 17 and make some grandmas happy. She's only 71! That's a compliment!

I saw WInger in the summer of 2002. Sounded okay but,,,,I don't get what's up with having that second lead guitar player around. Ruined the show for me.......it was like,,,get that idiot out of there and just let me hear Reb. What's he there for? They had Paul back at this point for keyboards and rhythm guitar.......so some songs had three guitar players, and Reb was the main reason I like Winger in the first place. Maybe Papa Kip is making Reb play nice with another lead guitarist. Not something I want to see again.....stop changing the line up and let's see the old classic Winger I loved to watch and listen to. MORE REB!!!!!!!!!! Poor Reb sure gets the back seat treatment in every musical situation lately. No wonder guys like VAI just go off on their own and do whatever they want. Forget the pop band format. Leave the egotistical singer freaks out of the mix. I mean, this is like having some other dude up there with Eddie on guitar if VH ever pulls it together.

Hmmm. I saw them open for Kiss, and the only thing that rocked was Morgenstein's drum solo?!

Later I saw them on the Pull tour with Jon Roth as guitar #2. It was one of the tightest, best sounding shows I'd been to. Lots of boobies were on display as well.

Can't say I like the new stuff, though.
