most of the Cherry Pie album guitar parts were recorded by session great Tommy Girvin who is a badass player, Atomic Tommy knows him, and some parts were played by British session man Mike Slamer who also did the first album (DRFSR)
and off course CC Deville played the solo for the song Cherry Pie

I saw Warrant supporting DLR on the "Little Ain't Enough.." tour. (Those were the days...). They freakin' ripped that night. Erik and Joey certainly didn't play like the "hacks" that they were supposed to be. Some sweet custom Ibanezes on show as well!

Yeah, the guys in Warrant were decent live, but if you listen to DRFSR the playing is a bit too good.

My "hack" comment was pointed to the guys in Twisted Sister, sorry for any misunderstanding!!!

so, if those guys in warrant didn't play on the records, then why were they in warrant? i understand how it works in the nashville scene, but for LA cheese-rock, that seems pretty unusual....

Joey Allen and Erik Turner were probably prettier than the studio musicians hence their inclusion in the band!

Warrant's new CD is actually pretty good! I've always liked Black 'n' Blue, so it's all good!

Dog Eat Dog was kinda cool. I was never a big fan...liked Uncle Toms Cabin though...cool song. I got the Dog Eat Dog cd by accident through one of those 10 cd's for a penny ads! I just thought it was really cool that they were actually getting heavier instead of really going with the teeny bopper shit.

I vaguely remember the "Where the town boys go" video. At the end, they threw their guitars in the air, but you didn't get to see how they landed. Too bad.

I think you're wrong on Cherry pie....I read many sources that Joey Allen did all the leads on that one(except cherry pie-the song). Even the cherry pie tab book has a lesson where Joey goes over the leads and what he was thinking,,,,how he came up with them, etc. And dog eat dog was all joey on lead too....... I really liked Warrant,,,,still crank those cd's sometimes,,,,GREAT SONGS!!!

Nah - don't do that!! They may have had some - they had damn near everything it seemed! Gear whores AND man whores!

I remember them with BC Rich, then Carvin, then Ibanez... After that they had a little of everything. G&L right now - and VERY interesting ones at that!

                            no, you are wrong

listen to how Joey plays live and on the new records (wich he actually recorded). It's not even close to the playing on Cherry Pie album, just compare the feel, vibrato and the note choice on the Cherry Pie album to Joey's playing. Then go to Eddie Money's concert or watch some of his live videos, when his guitarist Tommy Girvin starts to play solos you'll pretty much insantly recognize that it was him on the record. Take the song Uncle Tom's Cabin for instance, very tasty and flashy leads... in the vein of Warren DeMartini... it's Tommy's style to a T... Joey doesn't play like that.

BTW. I lately watched some Eddie Money's concerts, Tommy shreds like a motherfucker and gets a pretty awsome tone with his Mesa Boogies.

I guess, now that I think of it,,,,,the guitar playing on Dog Eat Dog is different from the first two albums. Geez, what a bummer. I mean, I like some of the solos on "dog eat dog" too,,,,but you're right,,,,,the first two albums are fast and flashy style. And to think that this Joey Allen dude sat down with Cherry Lane for the tab book and took credit for and explained all of the solos. Are you sure? Was that era really that fake? I'm speechless. I have a live dvd of Warrant from Lafayette , LA from the cherry pie tour,,,,and I thought he played the album solos pretty well,,,,but then again....they didn't completely play all of the songs with the flashy stuff.

i still stand by my earlier question.....why didn't the two guys actually play on the record? if they could do it live, then why not record it? if the band wanted flashy guitar players, why hire the two they had?
