  • The other Mr.Big hotshot

I've seen the Paul Gilbert solo spot from the Japanese show posted a million times, but there is also footage from their last show in Japan with Kotzen doing his solo. It is smokin' cool as well. Great tone too.

Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.

Is he still using Laneys?? The Marshalls don't look like they are powered...

That was killer, I love Kotzen. He is one of the few guys I think are even remotely close to the same level as Gilbert and Buckethead.

Another good one with Kotzen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1YSWCODkUbY

Killer song, amazing vocals, and he plays the intro riff without tapping!

you guys have to see Poision's concert video "Seven Days Live"
it's pretty obvious that he steals the show and the chicks from Brett, Bobby and Rikki

that being said Richie's not just a great guitarist, he is also a great singer (good soul voice), writes great tunes and is an multi instrumentalist... he can play lotsa different instruments very very well.
I like him more than Paul because Richie combines a lot of different styles together wich I love.... blues, funk, soul, jazz etc. very groovy player with amazing timing and meter.

I also love his tone and his Cornford signature amps are just amazing.

His sickest soloing is on the two jazz fusion albums he made with Greg Howe, now that's sick shredding.

Also "Vertu" is one of the lastest jazz fusion master pieces featuring the legendary bassist Stanley Clarke and drummer Lenny White... they were the rhythm section for the amazing Chic Corea's Return To Forever.
Also Karen Briggs on violin (Richie said she's the best instrumentalist and live improviser he's ever seen) and Rachel Z on keyboards.

Kotzen is an extremely tasteful player.. His solo-albums may be a bit on the poppy side, but I don't really care about that. It's not metal, but his playing is so tasty and he manages to sneak in some sick playing in his songs..
Ok, so he's a bit of a "pretty guy", but he was in Poison fer chrissakes!

                    well that's a good thing

I love pretty much all his solo stuff, groovy blues based rock'n'roll with hooks and attitude. I don't care about his first album but everything since Fever Dream (one of his best if not the best album) is great.
One of his latest projects Forty-Deuce does some great alternative/modern rock stuff.

I also love the album he made with Poision.... Native Tongue.
It doesn't sound like Poison at all, it's very groovy and bluesy. The guitar tones are amazing and the production kicks ass. The whole album has some cool stuff going on..... cool parts with Hammond organ, ethnic percussions, a gospel choire and the absolutley amazing Tower Of Power's legendary funky horns section.

"Tilt's" a great CD, I need to hear "Project" my teacher says that's even better.

I also like Project more.... the vibe and the sound is better.... Tilt's over compressed drum sound annoyed me a bit.

After CC got booted in '91 Richie was hired in '92 I think, he recorded the best Posion's album in my opinopn... Native Tongue in '93, then they toured but Richie banged Rikki's fiancee so he was fired. Then Poison hired another monster player Blues Saraceno who's style is kinda similar to Richie's, he recorded the album Crack A Smile with Poision in '94-'95 wich was the second best Poison's album IMO, but he had to leave the band because CC was back. The released the album in 2000.

I think it's impossible to label him.
