I was listening to Risk last night. I really wish it wasn't a "Megadeth" release. Well, I'm sure Dave does at this point too. The video's better than anything they've released in a while, but that's not saying much given "Die Dead Enough".

My exact opinion, I listen to Risk a lot. But not at the times I'm listening to heavy metal

I've read Dave saying that the Risk album was the biggest risk on his career which didn't end up good..

I'd say jumping out of a plane and messing around on his old lady were bigger RISKS to his career.

the label brought in outside writers on the RISK album and dave gave in to the pressure and let them ruin his shit.

Risk is not a Megadeth album. Period.

Oh Christ in heaven, RISK was a natural progression from Cryptic Writings. If Dave had spent more time promoting the album instead of blaming Dan Huff and Marty, it might have done better. Instead, he listened to the whiners complaining that it wasn't heavy like Peace Sells. Personally, if I wanted to hear the same fucking album time after time, I'd pull out the AC/DC collection.

If Mustaine IS Megadeth and he truly runs the helm, then he needs to suck it up and quit blaming the world when he fucks up. Having said that, I don't think RISK was a fuck up. Trumpets and rat-a-tat tat drums on TWNAH, now that was a joke!

As for the new video, it's over produced just like the newest album. Dave's got more vocal effects than David Coverdale ever dreamed of having. But if that's what it takes to make him sound good, God knows he needs it. As for the hired guitarist, he's got the chops and his solo ain't that bad. I just think rehashing a classic is a mistake, but I don't recall him asking my opinion.

                  Agreed on most of that.

                    Well, that's one opinion.

My take is that CW was a solid guitar based rock album. Risk was a collection of sound effects and stupid gimmicks. Understand that I have nothing against change. I was a huge fan of Marty before he joined Megadeth, and thought that musically Megadeth was a step down for him. Turned out that he made the best of it and proved me wrong. Risk's failure wasn't because the fans didn't accept it. Risk failed because it sucked. It was Megadeth's equivalent of Van Halen 3.

VH3 might be just a little better, though.

I agree that Risk and CW are really two different albums but I don't think Risk sucks. It's not a metal album, it's a "focused on vocals" rock album and I like it. Lots of great melodies. I wish it never happened though

                        • I need to listen to Risk again. I think I've listened to it a total of less than 5 times, just coudn't get into it. I actually did buy it used, for very cheap, a couple years after it was already out, though.:ROTF:

                          • Risk has some good songs:

Wanderlust is excellent, I could listen to that chorus every effin day. kicks my ass every time.
                            Ecstacy is a good song.
Time: The End pretty much kills, esp Marty's outro soloing.
and yeah I even like Breadline.

those 4 songs make Risk a decent cd for me, I don't love the cd but I don't hate it either. don't much like any of the other songs on that cd.
the guitar players look damaged - they've been outcasts all their lives
