Slaughter was a 90's band anyway... so no consideration for best 80's singer.

Shortino & Tony Harnell were great

but the greatest singer of the 80's and probably of all time has gotta be...

    Ronnie James Dio

The Elf? eh...... I never thought he was THAT great. Dug some of his stuff. Cut my teeth on Man On The Silver Mountain. Was one of my favorite songs, as a kid. Still, dragons and rainbows get kinda boring, ya know?

My fave's from the 80's tend to be overlooked.
John Bush in the Armored Saint days, Warrel Dane, and Scott Weinrich.

That's from a "talented vocalist" standpoint. By that I mean most of the bands I listened to in the 80's didn't have very good vocalists!

One of the great things about Dio that really sets him apart is the fact that he never seemed to do anything in the the studio that was a one time deal. Most singers have to pull punches live all the time and change parts cause they phiysically can't hit the note or pull off the screams they managed to get one time in the studio. The last time I saw Dio live was a couple years ago and he still sounded as good as he ever did in the studio. Whereas Klaus and Ian Gillan were on the same bill and were nowhere near being able to pull off there own stuff. Gillan sounded good but lost most of his upper range and Klaus Meine couldn't sing at all and I love both thos guys voices.

And Klaus should be added to the list as well

Aw, damn! How could I forget Dave! GREAT singer. Shame Y&T were never bigger. Always loved his voice. Mean Streak, IMHO, is STILL a great song. One of the first songs I ever sang, in a band. Good times, good times.....

I need to throw Doug Pinnick's name in here for consideration. That guys voice kills me.

Dave was really good too. I think his guitar playing was far superior to his singing, but he had chops on both ends there.

Another one was SRV, he was obviously known for his playing, but I think he was a very underated singer. He was an excellent blues singer.

                  +1 on John Bush too.

Whatever happened to that death metal band Slaughter that was around way before Mark Slaughter?

Speaking of Enuff Znuff, anyone else here think "Animals with Human Intelligence" was a great album? (twas my fav of theirs).
"Animals" is my Favourite aswell, They had a lot of good songs on it, but then again, most of their albums had a lot of good songs on them

But Animals just had a lot of nice variation in song style.

Another awesome singer? The guy from Europe!

That is the same band, Joe! You mean Fly To The Angels isn't death enough for you? It was about death, man.

I actually found some info on that Canadian death/thrash metal band Slaughter. I remember a friend of mine had one of their albums back in the mid '80s. Seems Chuck Schuldiner was briefly in the band. They put out a lot more albums than I thought.
