I can think of tons of other singers from the '80s that were better, though.
Joe, Mark wasn't a Fleishman clone. Mark was a one trick pony....granted, he sounded like the records live which is good and I'd give him props for, Robert was/is WAY MORE VERSITILE.

HERE HERE!!!! I second that. Actually, I lived behind Tim's parents in EWING NJ when Slaughter was on tour with Kiss back in the early 90's. He was a real cool down to earth dude. He grew up in Yardley PA down the street from my other guitarrist Dave. Damn shame what happenned to him, and how his evil girlfriend fucked his brother Brian out of anything coming to him from Tim's will which mysteriously dissappearred.

I thought that band was Cryptic Slaughter.
Transitioning from Retired Musician from cover bands to a Full time vocalist/frontman/guitarist in an original and covers band....it's been a while and this should get NASTY!

True, Robert was definitely better and more versatile than Mark.

There was a Cryptic Slaughter, but there was also Slaughter, two different bands. Here's the one I was speaking of.

Joe I got that calssic thrash Slaughter..with the skeleton w/ mohawk and the chainsaw..it's in my collection!

Reminds me a bit like Razor's early stuff...you know, with that 80's thrash vibe..I love that shit

Nice! I don't remember much about them, aside from a friend having one album, and I couldn't quite understand why Mark Slaughter could get away with having the same band name. I've gotta seek out some of their stuff now next time I hit the record store.

Michael Sweet has always had incredible pipes. Amazing, some of the notes he can hit.

You're all wrong... Axl Rose is the greatest!

But seriously, I'd have to say Dio, Dickinson, Bach, and Kilmister in that order.

Both Doug and Yngwie totally kick ass on it..it really doesn't sound like Yngwie's style or tone..it's firey!!

My VERY favorte singer is Jorne Lande..he has done so many projects including a classic whitenake band called "The snakes"..if you have not herad him..I strongly urge you to do so..he is amzing in whatever band he's in..

His first I know of is Vagabond w/ Ronnie Le tekro (TNT).
Ark..w/ Tore Otsby (conception, DC Cooper,)
Millenium w Ralph Santolla (Iced Earth, Deicide)
                      Mundanus Imperium
Masterplan..amazing stuff..w/ Roland Grapow (Helloween) ..the first two..the third one SUCKS without him!
The Battle..where he battles with the awesome Russel Allen (Symphony X) and strongly wins!!!!
and several of his solo releases simple "Jorn".."world changer" still being my fave.

I actually sent several messages dropping his name to the VH camp after VHIII took a dump..

If you don't think his style fits, you are wrong..because you could plug in Jorn in any material off of "balance"..which is more closely to where Ed would be today..writing wise..IMO!

Jorn can mix it up and he's the only dude that could sing a "love" song that I give a fuck about..because
                      he's so fuggin; awesome..

I think I'm gay for Jorn Lande..I get moist whenever I hear that fucker sing!!

He's also my singer's favorite which tells me alot..because he's amazing in his own right...he would KILL in Iced Earth because he could cover both the Barlow and Ownes stuff and own it!

Even Timmy O's guitarist (Beyond Fear) wants to record with him..in exchange for recording us with their drummer..my singer is "Thinking about it"..which tells me he declines...I know him.

                      GARY can confirm Jorn!!!

I like Ty more than Jorn who definetly doesn't fit to VH in my opinion

...Nice E, I would still love to hear it anywhoo..I got his tone in my head and I would like to hear it in that context..

maybe your right..A shirt or Jacket may look great on a hanger but ya gotta try it on to really know..I just have a feelin'..

I didn't think Gary Cherone was going to suck as much as he did in VH..he wasn't THAT bad in Extreme..

Oh, I got your "80's singer..John Corabi of The Scream..and later Motely Crue..that fucker can sing!

hey, I think Jorn is a totally awsome singer but I think you need more than a great voice to be in Van Halen.... as far as I'm concerned DLR is the only one.

Off course you would want your fav. singer to work together with VH, who doesn't.... you know years ago there was a chance that Ed is going to work with Coverdale...off course it never happened... but that would have been totally awsome because Coverdale is by far my favourite singer.... but I would have enjoed it if it was a side-project.... NOT a band Van Halen.

Gary sucked in VH, he is not a bad singer at all, when there was a Guitar Wars project with John Paul Jones, Steve Hackett, Nuno, Gilbert and then they did some live shows.... Gary joined them and he did a pretty awsome job singing Zeppelin tunes.... wich is hard to do because Robert Plant is untouchable... but in VH wich isn't vocally so much challenching he blew.. as I said good voice is not enough when we talk about VH.

Corabi is awsome... I loved The Scream a lot.... but when he was with Nikki, Tommy and Mick it wasn't really Motley Crue.... although I really liked their 1994 self titeled album.... it was a mean southern blues based...raw and grinding hard rock ablum.... like Leslie West and Mountain on Hyper Steroids...... it wasn't Motley. Vince is the voice of Motley Crue... although he is not the best singer.... he is unique and is a very important component of the band. It's just like Skid Row isn't Skid Row without baz or Van Halen isn't Van Halen without Dave.

Um..yeah E..I agree..that's how see it..you need that certain "charisma" for VH..but does Dave still have it..umm..I don't think so..I'd like to think so..but he sounded like he was burnin' out ..not sounding like he did when hit the ground runnin' to his second solo..after that he started to sound kinda flat and "tired" with the great Jason Becker ..although there was some great songs on that!

Yeah G..Jorn is the dude for me now..I love that guy...My wife thinks I'm totally gay for listening him so much..but he's in alot of bands I like..besides, I like REALLY heavy music these days..and when she's hears Jorn singing all mellow ..she kinda looks at me like this..

Until she got to know the songs..now she loves him too.."We brought the angels down and made them evil, ther's no religion without crime..oh yeahhhh!!"..
