Most singers have to pull punches live all the time and change parts cause they phiysically can't hit the note or pull off the screams they managed to get one time in the studio. The last time I saw Dio live was a couple years ago and he still sounded as good as he ever did in the studio. Whereas Klaus and Ian Gillan were on the same bill and were nowhere near being able to pull off there own stuff. Gillan sounded good but lost most of his upper range and Klaus Meine couldn't sing at all and I love both thos guys voices.

And Klaus should be added to the list as well
Ian mightn't have his old range anymore, but I still love his tone:

              Agreed!

G, That's what I'm suspecting of Roth. In the studio he was fucking incredible..but even when he was on his game way back in the day..he couldn't pull off his own stuff live. But some of that was part of his "schtick"..that dude is pretty sharp..he just played a good clown really.

I really saw Halford completly fuck up and have a bad night with "Halford"..his headset wasn't working and he couldn't hear himself in the monitors I guess..he was super pissed. Then I saw him with Preist at Ozzfest and he smoked..I love him in the studio on his three studio albums including the live one..nobody can do the banshi screams like that dude.."Victim of Changes" off '79's "Unleashed in the East"..wow!

very dynamic and he's singing about a chick.."She was beautiful, when she was mine"..!!!

                      • The dude from TNT had a good voice. Their first album was pretty sweet. Intuition wasn't too bad either. But they had a good guitarist...

The only vocal performance that really, really blew me away wasn't an 80's band. Devin Townsends vocals on Vai's "Sex and Religion" were so fuckin' good, it still gives me goosebumps...

And Horns mentioned "Unleashed In The East"... Besides "KISS Alive", that's my favorite live album... Oh wait, there was also "Live After Death". That was pretty good too...

                          Fuckin' classic performance...

Yep. I mentioned him in my post about Yngwie singers. He was good in Obsession, too.
I feel my soul go cold... only the dead are smiling.
