  • Social D. show

I saw them live in last Sunday. It was a great show. Mike was dead on & his tone & crowd interaction we great. No Jacksons as I figured he is a Gibby guy. His Orange County P90 Les Paul had the best tone in my opinion. They opened w/ an insrtumental of 1945. I forgot how crazy the SD faithful can get down on the floor. What amazed me was that crowd went the most nuts during Ring of Fire. The other thing that I thought was odd, during the whole show, people were yelling out to play Sick Boys. While it is a good song I do not think it is one of there best. but during the encore they ended with that song. All in all it was a great show & the opening act I Hate Kate was better than I expected.

Now that I got my old school Punk Rock out of my system, on to the Megadeth show & some old school Metal.

Sick Boy is one of my favorite D songs...actually, i have too many favorites to mention LOL there was a time where i was a total SD lover, and almost played and listened to nothing but them. i had a chance to go see them this weekend in Memphis, but i hate crowds like that so i skipped out, but one of these days i hope to meet the man!

and everytime i hear their songs i get GAS for a P90 equipped Les Paul. im not a Les Paul guy, i just dont get along with them, but i would at least like to have one with P90s just for that tone.

I agree on the P90 Goldtop. One day I will own one. I love how they sound.

As stated it was a great show. At one point of the show Mike had this 5 year old kid come up to the stage. This kid was decked out in suite & fidori. I thought it was a cool gesture on Mike's part to acknowledge the NEW School Breed & kind of showed that Mike is not full of himself. They did do Reach For The SKy. I love that song as well. In all honesty I have very few Social D songs that I don't like... rather I might pass on as opposed to don't like. The only disc I'm missing now is Mommy's Little Monster, which I will get again one day.

Oddly enough I find it odd that they are as popular as they are. I remember when I got into them, nobody really new anything about them, & the other Metal kids in my group & school kind of shunned them, as they were not a Metal sound. Even the Alternative freaks didn't dig them as they didn't fit the Seattle Grunge mold.

The people who know music like 'em As for genre, I always considered them to be one of the few good, post Sex Pistols punk bands.

The early stuff is definately Punk. And they were definately one of the few good punk bands of any era. But by the time they did Prison Bound, they had matured in all aspects. The guitar tone improved, Mike's writing expanded beyond just the usual Punk ideology & 3 chord beat the hell out of the strings progression, & his voice matured.

The only Punk bands that really need any listen to are:
Social D, Bad Religion, The Dead Kennedy's, & the Ramones. The Ramones not for any awesome musical talent or writing ability, but just for the sheer idiocy of it. I can't help but get a smile when I listen to the Ramones.
