Im gonna disagree with you about Drover... Im not a big fan of his especially after seeing him live and the H&H tour. I find his playing kind of booring, uses way too much vibrato in the wrong places and his phrasing isnt all that unique... hes no Marty by a long shot... but Im sure he could blow me away with only two fingers. And his live performances leave alot to be desired, I think the guy should quit the "smack" and start concentrating on not being a zombie on stage. I was 10ft. away from him, and either he had a bad cold (which I highly doubt) or he was higher than a kite, and his performance, somewhat sloppy, showed it.

Of course he's no Marty,noone is...but then again that's kind of the point.

And I've never heard of anyone using too much vibrato,maybe weird annoying vibrato ala (nut)Zakk Wylde ...

Yet he's still playing in one of the biggest metal bands ever...Megadeth,which never had a slouch playing guitar for them,I think (and obviously Dave does) that he's a great fit,and he's a very tasteful player. I would much rather listen to that stuff then Yngwie rip-offs anyday. It sure was neat 20 years ago,but it's dime a dozen shit now. *Yawn*

Played it again last night..it's a "very good" metal album..it has all the usual, high calibre standards in this genre.. great playin' , double kickin', and banshi-screamin'..nothing that sets them apart from 1000 other bands going thru my head with the exact same elements..nothing groundbreaking..with very average and predictable song writing.

Outworld is just one of over 5000's cds in my collection..it'll gather some dust like many others.

Nothing like Nevermore...for example.

Seriously, you know Cooley is in the band... you know how he plays... why would you expect anything different? Just take it for what it is... a shred fest. Sure, you cant hum along to the solo... but who gives a fuck? Its kickass NEW metal and we should all be pretty thankful!

Criticizing Rustys solo is like buying a new Yngwie album and complaining because he plays the same scales over and over again just like the last 42 albums.

Sorry,but what's "NEW" about it? DT already did the rhythms 10+ years ago,and Yngwie....Jesus,Yngwie was playing that shit 20 years ago. The only thing "new" about this is taking something older and something less older and putting it together.

I was kinda enjoying the rhythm stuff until it got to the complete change into an Yngwie tune for the solo,then I almost fell out of my chair laughing,it doesn't even come close to fitting that song...which is all heavy and shit,then wusses out HARD for what....some egotistical cock waving? ROFL

I think it's great if that's the kinda stuff you like,ok,nothing wrong with that,but it's not "new",not by any stretch.

And yes Yngwie is still playing the same sounding stuff he always has for the last 42 albums,he says he always will,and that's fine,fuck he invented it,or at least this version of it.It's HIS style,and just like classical composer of the past,the melodies may change,but you still know who it is.

It's kind of sad to see how lead playing has stagnated in the last 20 years,it's like once the technique hit the top speeds,that was it. Everyone was doing it and IMO it killed that whole scene.Which was good,it needed to die.That and G&R ,but thank God for Slash,the world needed a melodic player. Which is what could be the next "new" thing.....let's bring back taste...phrasing....melody,......and some fucking emotion to the instrument that was designed for that,and can most mimic the human voice. The guitar is supposed to be an expressive instrument,not a tool for jacking off and splooging all over your bandmates with.

Whoever brought up Drover ,you deserve a pat on the fucking back,he is a prime example of what I'm talking about...he has speed and brings it out when the song calls for it,but omg,the dude can play the perfect parts for the song...I love that he got the Megadeth gig. We need more people like him,not that play like him,but have that mentality and creativity and fucking taste.

Look at it this way:

1950's - 1960's : Birth of Rock and Roll,evolution of the instrument
1960's - 1970's : Hard Rock,and birth of Metal,new sounds,styles and techniques.....Hendrix playing with his schlong and chopping down mountains with the edge of his hand,and banging our moms,or for the younger guys,your grandmas...and yes she liked it...
1980's-1990's : Huge shift in technique and musical styles,evolution of the instrument by leaps and bounds,tapping,shredding,floyds,pickups,master volume amps,scallops.etc etc
1990's-2000 : Everything comes to a screeching halt,people abandon advancing technique wise,if for no other reason,who can play faster than Impelliteri or Shawn Lane? Why the hell would you want to? Guitars have not really changed either,sure we got 7-strings,but Vai was doing that in the 80's,so it's not really new. Oh we got modeling amps,which are just digitally trying to copy other amps anyhow,so not really new,other than it's wrapped up in one package. Oh,super high gain amps,which really allow you to not hit the front with a pedal anymore,and not have to crank the fucker until your ears bleed to get a good distorted sound out of it...and people still play the same shit through them ,so it's not really advancing anything.

If anything we have WAY more choices today,different pickups,paint jobs,frets,locking tuners,strings,but none of that is groundbreaking,only more of what is already there,nothing new at all in the grand scheme of things.

Back then the players pushed the edge of what their instruments were capable of,some more so (Hendrix,EVH,RR,Vai) which spawned the innovations which we enjoy in todays off the shelf instruments.Hell now that I think about it,I'm not sure what "shredding" brought to advance the instrument anyhow,other than Vai's 7 string,I mean hell,Yngwie was kicking ass and still does on a 21 fret strat,with modified pickups (stock when he was younger) a scalloped board (hand done when he was younger) ,a V-trem (OH NO) and a cranked to hell Marshall. Ok,well maybe the scalloped board,but that's not something you see as nearly often as say a Floyd,which was the doing of people like EVH and RR.

I received the album for Father's Day. Yay!!

Tracks 1-3 and 5 (Raise Hell, Riders, War Cry, and The Never) are way awesome and are now some of my favorite tunes period.

The album was out before they had the new singer. So the album is definitely the original singer. I think they're both good in their own way. I went back and listened to the video and compared it to the audio sample on their website of the same song. The new vocalist has a much stronger voice. But it seemed to me that Kelly, the original singer, uses more vibrato, which I happen to like as well.

I downloaded the album, and the vocals in the video aren't the same as on the album... So they've probably recorded the current vocalist for the vid, and I like his singing a lot better than the guy singing on the album.

I think it's the opposite.He's playbacking on the video.But the album is his voice.That's what I've heard.I'm not sure.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but there is a difference between saying that someone is bad and saying that you don't like them. I personally hated Nirvana. The fact that they sold millions and were the main contributor to the change of music in the 90s says they were doing something right. They were doing something very right. And they were good at whatever that was.
None of the guys in Outworld are awful. In fact, the abilities of each are at a pretty elite level. Be that as it may, their music may not be for everyone. I pesonally like them. They might sound like crap to others. That's just the way things go.
