He was a one of Tampa Sam Ashs doing a guitar clinic.
Always being an admirer of his playing and saw him several times while at Dokken.
Pretty cool guy, cracked a few jokes and steped in it a couple of times but all in all cool guy. I detected a hint of cockiness, but hey! how's on the stage and who is watching him play?
Started a bit rusty playing over backing tracks. Once he warmed up you knew the dude up there wasn't messing around. Showing his age, but who doesn't? He was playing through his Randall Lynch Box through a Randall sig cab as well. The mix was bad but you have to consider this a big box retailer.
I would like to mess with the amp on my own before I give a full verdict. That dude could play through a 9V Gorilla practice amp and kick must butts any given night.
He had his old Yellow bengal, body as he told from Grover Jackson's discarded bodies box. The axe had a newer neck with the most recent ESP heasdstock. He also played his new ESP distressed Sig V, not my cup of tea.
Stayed until the end and got an autograph, he shook every one's had and did PLENTY of small talk. Considering the dude was sharp on time @ 7:00 P.M. played for just about 1 hour and 30 minutes, answered many questions and then signed autographs until about 9:15 P.M. I say he was pretty cool for your typical "rockstar". I heard from one of the guys at Sam Ash that he came stright from the airport and at that time he had not gotten dinner. I would have a been a grumpy fucker if I had to go that long without chow.
I consider it a night well spent.
