A very good thread - one I didn't see was
Ian Crichton - listen to the EP of Catwalk, cd: Heads or Tails.
As well I still think Randy was underated or at least under covered. His untimely passage cut short what should have been a very productive career to this day.

That dude never got his props. I dug his riffs, and his leads. His leads always break away from the song and take it to a higher level, then bring it back down to where the song was before. His solos just sounded perfect for the song.

Brad Paisley is probably way underated due to his style of music, but that guy can play his ass off, more evident live and on his instrumentals than the radio stuff. Lot of nice fills in his music too if you can get into the country stuff.
a special from the spectrum vid and his tone was that hot the vid only does it half justice (Twisted Sister was pretty good that night too)
next would be John Sykes another tone God
and im going to Brad Paisley next month i hate country but that dude rips
and the most underated would be Jeff Beck
way better than than those other wankers from that era
and smokes half the players today using only two of his fingers
another tone GodThe Shred Neck Specialist

There are all kinds of players in this thread who have gotten all the recognition you could possibly get, or are known by any reasonably serious guitarist. If they seem underated, its becasue guitar in general isn't a big deal to the general public. There was a period in the mid to late 80's when guitar heros were very much in the public eye, it was hip to be a scorching player. that ended almost 20 years ago. No one really cares anymore. You can't get the same level of recognition these days no matter how good you are.

The music scales up and down really well too - it is complete whether it's just him or if he's got a full band. It only took me 20 years to appreciate Neil YoungI say the boy ain't right!

Top taking guys from my list!!
Actually, I should add Phil Collen to the list..He can throw down..he just doesn't do it in Def Leppard, he holds back and plays for their formula that works for them..but the bro's got game!!"Bill, Smoke a Bowl and Crank Van Halen I, Life is better when I do that"
Donnie Swanstrom 01/25/06..miss ya!
"Well, your friend would have Bell's Palsy, which is a facial paralysis, not "Balls Pelsy" like we're joking about here." Toejam's attempt at sensitivity.
