WOW. I never found Angus to be a guitar god or anything, but I've never thought he was a POS player . Like you said, to each his own.

I guess he's not as bad as that makes him seem, but the fact that every day you get some 10 year old saying that Angus is the greatest, and that just builds up.

I'd say he is not even close to the top 100 in Rock/Metal guitar playing

            • Yngwie J. Malmsteen - WAY underrated imho. Both as a guitarist and musician.

About 80% of this thread lists players that are highly regarded...Norton was probably just following the examples.

                    • Another guy I haven't seen mentioned here (or maybe he has) is Bruce Kulick. I don't remember him getting a lot of props, but maybe I just missed it.

You just said it yourself implying only beginners dig Malmsteen... Like I said, WAY underrated. People hate him because his arrogant style which has nothing to do with the fact that he IS guitar god no. 1.

                        JMHO

                        • +1 for Bruce Kulick, love his guitar style, he got no coverage in the guitar mags back in the day.

Granted, the man gets a lot of recognition...but, not quite enough for the truly amazing shit he does IMHO. YJM manages to lay down those lightning licks with unbelievably high notes with crazy vibrato on single-coil 70's strats with 22 frets and bolt-on necks and without double-locking tremolos and without compound-radius fretboards and without modern high-gain amps and with action that's higher than hell. He manages to sound 100% unique and identifiable at all times without drop-D, drop C#, alternate tunings, or over-the-top effects (I'm talkin to YOU "The Edge"!)
