Someone needs to define "under-rated", because almost all the players mentioned here so far are heavily lauded among most guitarists and guitar-based media (i.e. magazines).

May as well add EVH, Rhoads, Iommi, and Clapton!
I want to depart this world the same way I arrived; screaming and covered in someone else's blood

Rhoads is the most overrated player ever.He died 25 years ago but he's still on magazine covers. He was a good player that's for sure, but he's dead and gone and haven't done anything new for the last 25 years.Ok?
                I wish my hair-color was EDS :/

True, but at the time he was the most-visible guitarist in that style. Uli and Blackmore and a few others were already combining Classical technique with Heavy Metal and Hard Rock, but Rhoads had Ozzy's recognition from Sabbath to thrust him into the spotlight.

He was definitely great for the time, and his phrasing still sets him apart from the G.I.T. grads that followed.

And let's not forget his contribution to the very existence of Jackson guitars....

Simply not being totally overrated doesnt mean one is underrated.

Really! Who would ESPee have to rip off without Jackson? :ROTF:

My guess is he'd be playing whatever EVH was playing, or if Grover had turned Randy down ann Jackson had never come to be, he'd have a white LP Custom or Sandoval.

I think he would play a Gibson-like black flying V with a yellow pickguard
