          Tony MacAlpine ...

His Maximum Security album was one of THE guitar albums of the 80s, must try to get it on CD, think I wore the vinyl one out.

            Rik Emmett, definitely
Vernon Reid - saw him a few months ago...outstanding guitarist and a great band. Seriously, ton of fun to see live
Jimmy Bruno - Joe Pass' disciple plays it staight, no chaser
Guthrie Govan - I think he may have some Steve Morse influence
Manuel Barrueco - maybe none better. Certainly few anywhere close
Ty Tabor - simply a great guitarist

I'm also (obviously) sticking with the "underrated means known only to guitarists" train of thought

Definately! Also, I really like the guitarist on the Jack Russell solo album "Shelter Me". I believe his name is Matthew Johnson and if I remember correctly he is from somewhere near Dallas. His playing on that cd is just incredible.

I think he won the Ironman a couple times back in the 80's!!

Derek Trucks is very well regarded, but most people still don't know who he is. Contradiction? Not really.

I'll always think Bob Mould was a genius with the guitar.

I don't understand this thread. It's titled "underated" and yet you guys listed some of the biggest names in the business.

You guys think mike amott is underated? I think hes good but i think that alot of people don't realize that almost all the fast wicked arch enemy solos are chris and not mike. Mike always uses wah pedal too, which is think is wayyyy too over used, thanks Kirk Hammett.

So i guess I should add Chris Amott to my list, and Galder.

                          Good list!

                          also...

Dave Meniketti from Y&T and Akira Takasaki from Loudness don't get much attention or accolades.
Kahler...Killing guitar values DEAD since 1981.

Hell Yeah! Dave Scott rules. Tuff Luck shoulda been much bigger than they ever were. I remember there being a buzz that was starting to form in the guitar community, then..............nothing. Real shame.

Sleep. The sound doesn't collapse to riffs of early eyes either.

I also include his solo's with Carcass and his work rhythm wase with them. And Chris has better solo's, but i think Micheals body of work as a whole is better
