I was wondering if anyone has mentioned Dweezil Zappa yet. Very talented player, started out heavily influenced by Van Halen and the like, but lately he's been doing one hell of a job bringing Frank's legacy and genious out to a younger audience!

Warren DeMartini, and I'll also say Eddie Van Halen, because he can do much more than wanker-solos, he's got a weird unpredictable rhythm style.Jackson SL2H (nebula) '08

From the majority of the replies here, I'd venture to say "Most Overlooked Guitarists" would be a better title. For example, the Marty thing. Obvious he is an excellent player to say the least. However, for the era and genre, Kirk Hammett has always been the one getting all the recognition because Metallica was a more popular band . Then you have Skolnick. I've seen Kirk on multiple guitar magazine covers. Friedman and Skolnick have only been on one I've seen; the two were on the together on an old Guitar Magazine cover.
Definitely have to add a +1 for Bill Steer. A true riff machine and tasteful playing on most of his solos. +1 for Jerry Cantrell also. One I'll add that I haven't seen metioned yet would be James Murphy.EAOS: 28JUN09

"So, there they stood at the top of the stairs....
Miriam in the mood . . . Jonathan was scared.
Gazing into the dark, Jonathan saw this glow....
For a second, he turned his back,
And she was there like a ghost.
She pushed him hard and clean
. . . to the bottom of the stairs."

Probably overrated now with the Def L gig, don't really follow him now, but loved Vivian Campbell's work on his first two albums with Dio. Some great riffs and soloing in there.
Brad Paisley is probably way underated due to his style of music, but that guy can play his ass off, more evident live and on his instrumentals than the radio stuff. Lot of nice fills in his music too if you can get into the country stuff.Jackson KV2
