I dont agree, i feel his guitar style fit right in with the crue. One of my all time fav solo's is from home sweet home, just played with heart.

Yes he was not the most technical or speedy player, but I can actualy sit down and listen and enjoy 90% of most every crue album ever put out. I cant say that about alot of other bands.

As to Jake VS Randy, both great players, I think if Randy did not pass away we might have heard his tone get better, but he worked with what he had at the time. But I still Like Jake better.

I realize he's a tight rhythm player, but the guy has no business playing solos. It's what's always held the Crue back from being a big band for me.

How true and how sad the state of music.

I agree to an extent. But there was a lot of that so-called expression "back in the day" which was utter mind-numbing crap. A large portion of that stuff was just expressing how fast you could play or just repurpose some long last classical theme (poorly). There is a reason a lot of those 80's shredders are forgotten - their music sucked donkey balls. The 90's and grunge was a direct response to that crap. And a lot of the current metal/hard rock acts grew up on that 90's suicide music - it's no wonder they're just getting around to playing solos again.

Sorry siggy, Ralph is right - Mick Mars solos were lame. They're the sorts of solos you used to here beginners play at the music store before they figure out how to play over chord changes with notes that actually fit over the chords being played. Like when you hear a guitarist playing strictly in the E pentatonic box over an entire E 12-bar blues - eventually you have to take notice of the A and B chords or you will suck forever.

I heard a Mick Mars solo live on the BBC back in like 82-83. It was the worse bunch of wang bar garbage I had heard and really, for a pro player, not a real high point. Very sloppy. However, I think his rhythm playing is very good and he plays tightly.

Takuro and Hisahsi from Glay, not scale wiz's but the way how they create layered guitar parts (at genius level) and different sounds is fucking amazing. Their teamwork is over the top too... most of the time they play totally different guitar parts and make the whole thing sound just brilliant.... it's just like they are having a conversation.

I disagree, his solo's fit the music, the crue was not a shred band, not and over the top million notes a minute, Trust me, I would rather listen to mick anyday then some of these so called great shreaders that after awhile just bored the shit out of you.

It is actually funny, you see all these emo/punk/screamo kids wearing 80's metal shirts now. You walk into guitar center and 15 year old are shredding like crazy. I am glad they are finally appreciating it, give the music screne a few more years and I am sure we will see mainstream music with solo's.
