  • Schenker is amazing! Audio...

There's a guy on YouTube that has a ton of rare Uli/Schenker vids. It seems every day the guy puts something cool on there. Anyway, he posted an audio demo track of "Lights Out" with a montage of pictures. I'm not sure when it was recorded, but it does sound a bit "old". When Schenker was in his prime (or on his game), he was one of the best. Listen to the cool phrasing during the second part of the first solo (starts with the drum roll when they move up to A). The outro is sweet too.

I wish I had a sense of melody like that...

Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.

Yeah, I've only discovered Schenker in the last two years. I've always known of his reputation (I'm 36), but never really heard any tunes until I was given Strangers in the Night to check out. I've been hooked ever since.

nobody touches Michael Schenker in terms of melody or emotion in their playing. he's been my favorite player for 30 years now.

the only one that comes close is Marty Freidman.

I'm SO stoked - gonna see him Friday night in Santa Ana (w/George Lynch) as well as Monday night (here in San Diego - almost stumbling distance from my house )...unless he chooses SoCal for his tour to implode, as it always does...

Boy...gonna be hung-over at work Tuesday...

I got tix to his last two scheduled LA area shows and he ended up cancelling BOTH of them. man was I pissed.

now I'm holding off, waiting to see if he can actually finish a US club tour. hopefully his marital problems are on the road to resolution, that was the reason he has not been in the US the past few years.

Yeah, I've got a DVD with about five or six songs from that show... It is Uli with UFO, and then him solo with Jack Bruce playing bass and singing on a few tunes. Uli is another one. Great technique, but its the phrasing and melody that stand out the most for me. Uli and Schenker are world class without a doubt.

I've basically immersed myself in both of those guys for the last little while. The bass player in my last band had tons of cool stuff on CD and DVD. Actually, it is because of him that I got into both of them in the first place.

Same here, he cancelled 2 shows I've had tickets for in the past (one at 3pm in the afternoon!). He's playing near me in a few weeks time (NO ONE big plays here, it's a real backwater in terms of RnR in the UK but the venue manager has managed to book MS somehow) but I'm wary about getting tickets.

Having said that, when he's on form, no one can touch him - I got UFO's Strangers when it came out and it still gives me goosebumps today. Checkout the 2 MSG albums with Robin McCauley, Schenker's playing is awesome.

Did you follow the ongoing email circus on his website between him and his ex's? Like a car crash - just couldn't help reading it...ex-wife #1 would write something to him about unpaid child support, he'd write back that she stole everything from him, ex-wife #2 would write the same thing, etc...why he decided to air his dirty laundry, I'm not quite sure, but I just hope he has it together for this tour...and he leaves his girlfriend at home and doesn't bring her on stage like his last US tour...
