  • Hanneman/King Reign in Blood era tone

Anyone know what pickups they used on that album? Their tone was never quite as good after that.

    I'm guessing Dimarzio SD's???

I'm guessing EMGs because of the tone. I really don't have a clue other than that.

I think they were using EMG's at the time. Still are...

On the album you might need to add the Producer and Engineer to your tone.

Mic placement, what kinda EQ's they used in the final mix...

Were they using EMGs as early as that album? I know they used a Crybaby wah stuck in the middle for that filter effect on all their solos on that album, Marshall amps, but I can't remember much else about their equipment.

I think King was using BC Riches with those onboard active electronics (with passive pickups) with 15 switches and knobs...all turned on to 10!

JCM800 with mid knob on 10, they did that to throw a middle finger at the current 'scooped' tones of the day!

Judging by old photos the change to EMG's happened somewhere at least after the South Of Heaven-tour. I also remember reading somewhere about Kerry using Dimarzio Megadrive-pickups but can't remember where..

The only thing they would have used in terms of a Rich's electronics would be the preamp. Can't say for sure how much they were used but Neal Moser posted on his forum the other day that he used to install boosters for Kerry after Neal left BC Rich.

I have my mid knob at 8 or + most of the time, this is the best way to really cut thru the mix. This is because te guitar is a mid freq tone instrument, and if you scoop the eq then your are in turn taking the guitar out of its normal eq place.

This is why many people sound good when playing alone and they don't come out in a live band if they us a U shape eq settings... then they think that to make them sound they need 1000wat amp :ROTF:.
