I know that most Testament fans were glad to see Alex back in the band, but I really thought that the Eric/James duo was a better fit, at least for the newer material.
Especially now he'd be a great use for them - especially since they have Nick Barker on board.
Coming to think of it,the whole album just kicks some serious ass !!
After a long time, I'm listening to some old school death metal in the form of Gojira!! Sounds like Grave, obituary, godflesh all put together.
i love james murphy's solo style, but was greatly dissapointed in his work with testament. just not inspiring at all.
Death - spiritual healing and Obituary - cause of death are his absolute best work. i personaly thing he made cause of death Obituary's best album by far.
i love the way he makes his solo's sound like they are dripping. what a perfect use of delay.

I think it was konkrha weed out the weak that made me go 'ooohhh, so thats THAT guy!'. His stuff in testament is among my favourite riffs/leads of all time!
This is one of those threads I been thinkin' about for a long time and never it did..so thank you!
One of my very favorite and inspirational metal guitarist of all time..
I try to get anything he's on..and it's alot! Whether he produced the band or play on the album..I either have or will buy it...I just got a band called "Daath"..just because he produced it.
My bud called him so I could sat "hey"..but he got my enthusiatic message on his machine!
He kicks the dick off Yngwie doin' " The Sails Of Charon" with Testament. Yngwie just shits all over it aimlessly..James fuggin' NAILED it..like it should be nailed!!!
As far I'm concerened, whatever James Murphy touches..rules!
Yeah, the dude rips! My good friend who plays drums describes his leads as "floating", esp in Testament. I tend to agree with that.
And don't forget Murphy's 2 solo cds, Convergence and Feeding the Machine. He shows a wide range of playing on those. Chuck Billy sings on a few of those tunes as well. I was just listening to Convergence the other day.
This guy is sooooo under-rated! He's played in Death, Testament, Obituary, Cancer, Disincarnate, etc. He plays in a bunch of styles (other than Florida Death Metal and Thrash), and has a really amazing lead style. An example of some of his better soloing (outside of Death Metal or super heavy stuff would be on "Trail Of Tears" by Testament. Check it out! And for those of you who have heard of James already, ...
Appreciate him and his playing! (in this thread)
