Tim Mills is probably THE best lead guitarist to have ever been in IE too. I've met him a few times, played through his gear, bought his pickups and spoken to him quite a bit about him being in Iced Earth, what the guys were like and he even loved my band when we were doing well. It's a shame he had to leave.
    + a gagillioin.

Big IE fan myself and hated TGB until I just played it over and over in work for about a week a few months back. Now I absolutely love it! I almost can't go back and listen to the earlier stuff now... wtf?!!!

Tim is WAY too busy winding my pickups

as far as IE goes... shaffer can take his overdubs and stick them where the sun dont shine.. i bought Live at Athens some time ago, only to discover it was only studio tracks with video. there's nothing live on that dvd.

I have been listening to the promo copy of the new album, and it's fucking wicked (pun intended)! The new songs are fantastic. Tim sounds great and the concept/story is told quite well. All fears have been left behind. This is a killer album.

I always heard the the live CD was straight from the board with some studio editing? The DVD is obviously just the CD played along with the video footage.

'some' studio editing? at least half of what shaffer plays has been overdubbed. some of barlows singing too. real obvious shit too.

Iced Earth is not comparible with Balow/Ownes...not even close IMO!

If I heard Iced Earth for the first time with Ripper, I would just moved on to be honest..

Barlow was what made me pay attention to them in the first place..10 years ago!

Ah it did the opposite for me. I'd only heard Declaration Day and it got me into them. I got Horror Show as my first album though, then Dark Saga and something wicked... I'd need more Ripper to make my mind I guess.

                      that's what he does..

If you really dig Barlow's vocals.... keep it at that it's all a matter of taste really, but Barlow to me had this 'charisma' or 'vibe' going on where owens IMO is just a 'monkey doing the metal trick' ... not exactly the singer you'd notice among the rest. He was great in priest, but that's where his reach is limited to methinks.

                          You've shattered my dreams!

All I know is the two times I saw them live with Barlow, it sounded exactly like the live disc. One of those shows ranks in my top three best shows of all time.

I don't know... Declaration day has a killer little solo and overall I feel it's a good enough song. Is the album not as solid overall? I know it's all subjective but eh...

Pott, bottomline ..yes, cool songs..But Owens has one "trick"..a great scream, a old metal cliche..he has a "good" voice, but he is VERY pitchy, his range is limited, and nasily tone..my singer can do a uncanny immitation of him that cracks me up!!

Tim Owens sounds like a better version of Jim Brewer making fun of Rob Halford...OMFG That's it..that's a perfect analogy!!!! :ROTF:
