I'm guessing it was the former.

Edit - and, yes, I am envious of you seeing them in 1984
The only time I ever saw VH was the Monster Of Rock Tour, and it all pretty much sucked. Metallica wasn't there, KC blew (always did), Scorps did the same friggin stage show when I saw them several years, before, Dokken sounded awful, and Eddie put me to sleep with his friggin 20 minute solo, not to mention I HATE Van Hagar. All i got out of it was boredom, a sunburn, and dried, frizzed out hair.

I'd love to see this work but it has disaster written all over it. I think Dave needs a couple of backup singers, maybe some premier sluts like Vince Neil had on the Girls, Girls, Girls tour.

You can get some of Ed's private stock tour picks at VanHalenstore.com for a mere $50 bones or so each.

They do still sell some Mike Anthony items so Ed must not have control of that site.

        From BlabberMouth:

The Pulse of Radio (formerly Launch Radio Networks) reports: VAN HALEN may have restored former bassist Michael Anthony's photos to the album cover art on the band's official web site, but it seems the group is still trying to remove Anthony from its history. According to AntiMusic.com, Anthony's name has been taken off the writing credits for some of the group's music. An email to the site from a VAN HALEN fan explained, "On every single VAN HALEN song (with exception to the three new songs on the 'Best of Both Worlds' compilation), credits have always gone to Eddie Van Halen, Alex Van Halen, Michael Anthony and the lead singer who is featured on the song...However, during the credits of the film 'Superbad', which features the song 'Panama', the song is only credited to the two Van Halens and (David Lee) Roth! Anthony continues to get snubbed by his former band as they attempt to erase him from the history of the band."

AntiMusic checked the ASCAP database and learned that Anthony's name has been removed from the songwriting credits of the album 1984, on which "Panama" originally appeared, although apparently he still gets credit on other VAN HALEN releases.

Anthony was reportedly forced to sign a reduced royalty contract in order to take part in the 2004 reunion tour with singer Sammy Hagar, according to Wikipedia.org. Anthony also apparently did not play on the three songs recorded for the "Best of Both Worlds" collection.

A furor erupted online last week after photos of Anthony at the band's official web site were either removed or replaced by an image of guitarist Eddie Van Halen's son Wolfgang, who will play bass on the group's upcoming tour. The photos were restored less than two days later.

VAN HALEN announced the details of its long-awaited reunion tour with original singer David Lee Roth on August 13. The tour kicks off on September 27 in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Pre-recorded tapes will reportedly be used to recreate Anthony's backing vocals on the tour.
"Now remember, things look bad and it looks like you're not gonna make it, then you gotta get mean. I mean plumb, mad-dog mean. 'Cause if you lose your head and you give up then you neither live nor win. That's just the way it is. ":JOSEY WALES

          Wow.

Ed needs to take a cue from Sharon and Ozzy and issue rerecorded remasters of the entire VH collection with Wolfie on bass and some studio backup vocalist and further purge Mike from the bands history.

I am going to the September 29th show in Greensboro. Got my tickets on Saturday.

Sleep. The sound doesn't collapse to riffs of early eyes either.

Well I heard today that they will be using pre recorded backing tracks to take the place of Micheal Anthony. ROFL .. ok Milly Vanily.

I'm a Van Halen fan be it DLR or SH.. To say that DLR is the greatest frontman is stretching it IMHO. When I seen VH back in the early 80's w/ DLR I thought his vocals wasn't all that.. and it was worse when he went solo. Extreme and Cinderella open for him and both of those bands put on a great show compared to DLR. His jumping around and playing the crowd is a different story, and I do that VH is one of the greatest bands out there.

Greatest frontman, dude, not vocalist - big difference. If you've ever seen Journey live you'd know the difference. Steve Perry could sing anyone off the stage but the guy was boring as hell as a performer. DLR is all about the show.

I'd have to put these into the conversation of best frontmen ever and most have had longer duration than DLR:

                    Ozzy
                    Mick Jagger
Vince Neil - few people more outrageous than him, I mean he killed someone, right?
                    Rob Halford
Axl - even though I hate the dick

Ozzy He paces!!! Horrible front man! He's done that since day 1.

Mick Jagger Great showman, great voice live.

Vince Neil - few people more outrageous than him, I mean he killed someone, right? I found HIM boring... the backup singers were more entertaining, and better to look at. He didn't "kill" anyone, it was an auto accident that he should have went to jail for. Very uncool.

Rob Halford Haven't seen him live before, just televised shows. I thought those were ok, but not great.

Axl - even though I hate the dick Loser!.. Horrible front man. To disrespectful to his audience. Fucker made us wait until midnight before he was "ready" to grace us with his presence.
The show was supposed to start at 9:00 fucking PM!

I was thinking in terms of notoriety and brashness.

Remember that twin headlining bill they played with Metallica back in the 90s? I remember Axl got pissed when someone tossed some fireworks on stage in Texas. Sat down for the next couple songs then walked off.

One for Ed's kid here. I hope the tour lasts and he has a great time.

It's not their glory 80's touring days,
Not quite all there (no M.A.),
DLR can't quite make the turn around jump kick anymore,
Dad is fresh from rehab and
The kid probably needs to go with mom to Jenny Craig but....

It is still basically VH and he is going to be on stage with EVH and on the road with DLR ! Pretty cool. Have fun kid. Do it all !

As for VH with Axl as frontman. Won't even imagine that one....but the word riot comes to mind first.
