  • Any Jeff Buckley fans out there?

A very eerie tale about this guy but he wrote some of the best lyrics and music i've ever heard. What a beautiful voice, you've never heard a voice like this. he grew up singing in the church choir, and he sounds like nobody else. A lot of his songs are dark and somber, yet sometimes filled with hope, and these ears find his only album-GRACE to be one of the best albums I've ever heard. He has written enough tunes to make 3 or 4 albums, and you can get bootlegs all over the place, but he wrote often about drowning, and that's exactly how he died when he dove into the harbor in '97 on a hot summer night to cool off and his body emerged two or three days later. The biggest waste of talent , he hits me hard as histunes do revolve around dope, heartbreak, love, and darkness. One of his roadies was with him when he jumped in from the shore, maybe there was a riptide, I don't know, but do yourself a favor and buy that album if you're into trying something new outside of Dokken or what have you. No knocks on Georgie Lynch, he's a motherfukker of a player, but this is some seriously soothing yet alarming music that I have a hard time geting out of my head. He was signed to Sony and is the shit. He hosted 120 minutes once on MTV, a segment that I never dug at all, but as you get older you appreciate things you never would as a young rocker. This album, and Amorica by the black Crowes got me through a bad kick in the tank once.
I might not have lasted without those two albums . He was headed for some big time accolades and stardom wit his beautiful music. It's not for everybody, but I don't listen to shitty music, ever.-lol

I haven't heard much Jeff Buckley, but I was just listening to Tim Buckley (his father) last night. "Song to the Siren" is farkin' haunting. This song also seems to reference drowning, eerily enough. He died early as well, although of a more typical rock star reason, drug overdose.

Its from the Starsailor album. I just looked it up on Amazon, its out of print, but you can get a used copy for $ 89.45 It is also in a greatest hits collection called "The Dream Belongs to me" that is in print.

This Mortal Coil does an excellent cover of it as well, on their "It'll End In Tears" album.

You have also intrigued me about Jeff Buckley. I am going to have to score some of his stuff. I have been going through some tough times lately, and I find it very helpful to listen to dark, brooding music for some reason

Interesting topic, I don't see many non-heavy bands mentioned here

the thing is, it's dark in the lyrics dept. sometimes but not in the music. It's almost divine, the dude is a bad motherfukker I tell ya. Start with grace, it's one of the best albums i've ever heard in my life and that's saying something having 7 older brothers and sisters. There was lots of music in the house and I was schooled early.
          Best tunes on the album-
          1-Eternal Life
2-lover you should have come over
          3-Last Goodbye-(fukkin incredible)
          4-Dream Brother (eerie as fukk)
          5-Mojo Pin (self explanatory)
          6-So Real
          7-Lilac Wine
          8-Hallelujah
          9-Chorpus christi carol,
shit that's about the whole album-lol, it's the shit. If you really have a good ear you'll hear the genius of this cat, i don't think anyone can touch when it comes to singing, and he plays a great tele.

            Atomic Hoodie Man -

            Buckley rules..."Grace" is a Masterpiece.

My last band used to do a pretty souped up version of "Last Goodbye"....people freaked. In fact, in a strange way, we were getting written off because our singer did the Buckley thing to a T. Buckley was a HUGE influence on this guy....I used to get the chills playing that tune - did it in open D on a Strat through a Marshall or Bogner XTC...."did you say - NO, this can't happen to me? "

Love Hallelujah too - sick Tele tones in there...

Man, thanks for the good Buckley hit - Hoodie Mojo coming your way

"was there a voice unkind, in the back of your mind"

"kiss me out of desire , baby, not consolation, you know it makes me so angry, cuz I know that in time, i'll only make you cry, this is our last goodbye"
I sing that to my girl everyday , He's a huge force that never got to fully blossum. maybe sometimes that's a good thing, but I don't think he's the kind that would have sold out to selll records, he would have just gotten better and better and better. I'm really glad you dig him too. your singer must have been really good. When I'm alone sometimes during the day, and his stuff is playing , I can't resist a mojo pin, and then sit back and just drift away to places far away. He is the stuff. what a waste , should be others that happens to, not him. I can't believe the irony, and the spookiness. Dream brother, mojo to you too.

As always, Buckley fans should also check out Ours. Jimmy Gnecco has a ridiculous voice.
