Yes those records (the first 2 not the Dereks last) with Derek, Zakk, Yngwie , Sykes ,Holdsworth rock. Listen to the song where Zakk is playing with Sykes, it was the 3 song i guess, on the second album( eemm mythology), Sykes playes the best guitar solo he has ever played and Zakk is ripping like allways.

Yeah, That's excaty what I thought..I think the idea of theose two playing together lit a fire under thier asses....Sykes is of of Zakk's "heros"..everytime Zakk does a "Ping"..Sykes should get a royalty check..boy that's be a lot of checks!!

John Sykes + Frank Marino = Zakk Wylde .

Awesome thread guys, I'm always looking for new stuff. Gonna take some time to check these bands out. I love that newest Scar Symmetry cd, some great melodies and interesting non conventional leads. Havent heard the older one , suppose I owe it to myself to give it a listen. I think they are one of the more refreshing newer bands.

Aghora sounds good but the female singer is kinda hit or miss on certain parts of songs.

Alarum is good too but the production/mixing on the cd kinda hurts them abit IMO.

I'll listen to just about anything that's good and heavy, regardless of the singer. In the '80s, I got into Venom, Death and Celtic Frost, so the harsh cookie monster-type vocals don't bother me.
Though, Ray Alder has been my favorite vocalist since he joined Fates Warning in '88. The No Exit album rules!

I also finally picked up the new Rush and new Symphony X CDs today.

Yea Joe, Celtic Frost.."Cold Lake" was their best!!

I remeber buying that fuggin' album. The one I bought before that was Morbid Tales of course When I put on Cold Lake..I had to do a double take..I remember clearly.."WTF happened??!!"..

Ha! I never got that one, I knew better. Actually, I had friends with CF albums back then, I never bought any... until recently when I picked up Morbid Tales and To Mega Therion both on vinyl.

My parents bought me a new stereo for Christmas... it's got dual cassette, 3 CD changer, AM/FM radio and a turntable. I've been listening to all of my old albums (I haven't thrown any out) and still buying new stuff once in awhile.
I actually saw the new Symphony X on vinyl today, but I got the CD instead. What a strange CD case that is, with the stupid little flames coming out! They had it in the regular jewel case, too, but it was $1 more.

Checked the myspace and I think they sound way different, like Deftones with stranger music, very repitive too. You named 2 of my favourite bands and I got a bit excited, damn. Some other great recommendations though.

Check out Textures for a great new prog metal band. I saw them live this summer and they blew me away. The album Drawing Circles is just class.
Scar Symmerty are really good I have to agree. I prefer the newer album but both are super catchy. Like Soilwork with clearly defined harsh and clean vocals.
                          Great thread.

thanks for the reminder! Textures sent me a friend request on myspace a while back so I checked them out. Very good stuff. I still haven't got around to picking up the album yet, but I've been meaning to

Yeah E..This genre really isn't your bag. The people who love this stuff, like me go ape nuts over it tho..you'd hate alot of the stuff I love..but I find musical value or inspiration in it. Then I apply that to my own writing which sound is far from the original source...or something like that!

I just love very technicle style that really pushed the enevlope om power, speed, aggression, ...well that does certainly identify with my personality.
