I heard that Jeff Scott Soto did vocals for the movie too..I only saw it once. "Steel Dragon"..

That movie was loosely based on Tim Owens/Preist..his bro is a cop and his mom ran a day care.

    small world.

I'm sure they used to have a biog of ol' Yngwie up there - but then they have made a few changes recently.
Pretty cool site they've got there, it's another comparatively 'tard-free guitar forum.

In Rockstar, I think Mike did the vocals when Wahlberg's Izzy character is shown singing and Soto was the voice behind the original Steel Dragon singer that was left the band? I don't think Soto was on camera but I have no clue what he looks like so I can't say for sure.

On the soundtrack I think that Soto sang lead on Livin the Life, Stand Up (written by Sammy Hagar), and Wasted Generation and Mike sang lead on Blood Polution, We All Die Young and Long Live Rock n Roll. Got the cd at home I'll have to confirm sometime.

A lot of talent in that flick.

wow...never heard people say Jeff Scott Soto sucks

I personally think he's an excellent vocalist with a lot of, power, range, clarity and has a helluva lot of talent. last I heard he was wiht Journey filling in on vox and then they fucked him over and fired him for some reason and not because he cannot sing

Nick (kmanick) pointed me to that site a couple years back. Great site, I dig it. The bios are great, good info about the players' style, sound, etc., and they're pretty accurate on the strengths and weaknesses of each player. I've also wondered why Yngwie isn't on there. If you read their description of what is a dinosaur rock guitarist, they don't really care for Shrapnel shred guys but yet they did bios on Satch, Vai, and Petrucci, who are certainly more "shreddy" than ballsy/bluesy. The Yng certainly has their other criteria covered - playing with balls, attitude, and LOUD! Moreso than the 3 mentioned.

Edit - and back on topic, Yngwie rules! One of my all-time top 3, along with Lynch and EVH.

+1. Yngwie always assembled a great bunch of guys for his band. He's had so many singers, I can't keep track any more. :ROTF:
I've always preferred Mark Boals or Mike Vescera over Jeff, but Jeff is still excellent.

No longer. They let him go back in May or June. He was in the band a little less than a year.

yes, I just saw the movie, and JSS is credited second behind Mike Whatever (horns' buddy) for the vocals, but he was not on screen. just the vocal dubs.

                          more than loosely I'd say.
it seemed very obvious to me while watching the movie that that is what it was based upon.

Ha ha, that dude, Mike Matijevic, of Steelheart, had probably the greatest rock n' roll voice I ever heard. Saw them in a club in Dallas probably around 1990 plus or minus a year.

If not the best, he was right up there with Geoff Tate in terms of vocal range.

Shit, you guys really take this serious!

Frank is a badass, I wouldnt actually say he is in the top 3 since well, there is no such thing.

There will ALWAYS be arguements as to who was best.

Hendrix? just a noise maker who played simple blues songs?

Page? a badass song writer, but not an amazing guitar player

Van Halen? Fuck Van Halen :ROTF:

anyways, that concludes my "There Is NO Such Thing As 'The Best Guitar Player'"

I am a big fan of some of his songs. Odyssey is my favorite album. But to me he´s just incredible when you see him live. Like no other player he gives me the impression that he could play EVERYTHING just like that.
