I had heard some buzz about him, so I went down to the store and grabbed the Alcatrazz live album that had just come out that week, I think it had a black and white picture on the front with yellow writing. Cant remember what it was called?

I shit myself, simple as that.

You could see right away that 'things were going to change' lol. I wanted so bad to be able to play like that.

The effect in those days was not too far behind the effect Van Halen had. The whole guitar community was just buzzing with excitement from top to bottom. It was invigorating.

Van Halen was a bit more extreme of course, as he burst out of nowhere and caught everyone off guard. Yngwie appeared in the middle of a guitar hero era, so it wasn't quite as shocking. But still it was close.

Ah thanks. I was thinking it was called No parole or something. I still have it somewhere, but my vinyl doesn't see the light of day much.

No Parole From Rock & Roll

was the first studio album, released the year before LS.

Yeah, there was four Alcatrazz releases all together.."No Parole for Rock Roll..'83" / "Live Setence" '84 / "Disturbing the Peace w/ Vai '85 ..then Eddie Van Halen's buddie Danny Johnson joined them in '85 and put out "Dangerous Games" in '86..that album sucked the wazoo..the solos and songs were lame!!!

Yeah that wasn't good.. I still have the article in a old GW with Ed saying Danny Johnson is the best player he's heard in a long time. So, I couldn't waite to hear him after Yngwie and Steve Vai..by that time I already wore out Steeler, all three Alcrazz cd's and Vai's 1st release with the Attitude song on it..

I got "Dangerous Games" the day it came out..took it home and went..wha??!!!

Danny Johnson then went on to Private Life..produced by Eddie Van Halen in '90..the 1st track was the main song in Wayne's World..Tia's band..it was very gay!

Seeing him live was a humbling experience, also him playing Hendrix showed that he can play very well without being a mechanical shredder.
The coolest thing about YJM imho is the fact that he shreds like he do on a scalloped, 22 fret, high action crap Fender...

He is my no. 1 influence and guitar god but if I try to play his stuff on the YJM signature Fender the songs come out 1/4 as fast as the original whereas a Jackson/Charvel at least can take it down to 1/2...

Here´s some from the master at G3 btw.

He uses old Fenders with 21 frets, not 22.

How about respect for a little girl who would destroy Yngwie.. http://youtube.com/watch?v=98y0Q7nLG...related&search=

I'd like to see him sit next to her while she played that...

The first time I heard him was back in 87, Trilogy album. I then went to see him for the Odyssey tour in 88 at the Bronco Bowl in Dallas, and met him and he and Jo Lynn Turner signed the CD for me.

Caught him a couple of times in Lubbock Texas, when I was at Texas Tech. He played in a place so small, the the stage level was litterally at knee height. Best Yngwie show I ever saw. Had him sign Trilogy that night.

Easily the best guitarist I have ever seen live. Never tried to play like him, cause I knew that I would never put the time in to be that good.

I think YingYang is the reason I was never that impressed by Kirk Hammett's playing (along with a lot of other players that came after that were being touted as the "Best Guitarist in the World"). I had Marching Out before I heard any Metallica. So when the 'tallica fanboys were arguing that Kirk is the greatest guitarist ever, I just couldn't hear it. And of course, they either wouldn't check out Malmsteen or thought he was lame because of the classical influence.

A lot of people think Ronald Reagan defeated the Evil Empire but here is what really happened:

Also, this doesn't diminish (haha) my love for Yngwie, but classicaly influenced arppegios were played earlier if not first by Ritchie Blackmore who could be considered Yngwies daddy in a sense.

But yeah, I don't get people who say he plays with no emotion or feeling, check out that clip, people are going bonkers!!! it's very dramatic.

Alot of music critics think the only acceptable emotions or feelings are moping and being depressed and the only way to express them is blues licks or pentatonic noodlings on an out of tune Jazzmaster(I had one, they suck)

Hm, I always thought that the Evil Empire was the States tough.

I was there, on that particular show filmed as well as the one in Moscow (thought it was the better one actually). I don't think I have ever witnessed anything comparable - the sound was top-notch, show, playing etc. Yngwie was in top shape as well.
