Lynch or Campbell??

I've got to go with Vivian..I've got a dvd of Vivian Campbell when he performed in New York City @ G.I.T. in 1988..On the dvd he's playing a Tom Anderson strat [which reminds me alot of a Kramer Pacer Deluxe] and he just tears it up..The first song Vivian performs has a lot of Dio-era licks..wicked..

Interesting. While I agree that Jake was involved with Dio in the very early stages of RJD's solo band (before Campbell was given the job), I fail to see any songwriting credits for Lee on the Holy Diver liner notes.

there aren't, but i have read in several places that the initial idea's were Lee's

for a total package based only off the first two Dio albums I like Viv better. George is cool too but a lot of Dokken stuff just flat out sucks to my ears except Georges solo's.

Today George takes it cause I think Vivians go-nads fell off after leaving Dio. I thought Viv blew on the Whitesnake super group tour and Vandenberg owned his ass from the opening song...I was actually embarrased for him...total let down

I think Campbell was the best with Dio, after that...So I'd go for Lynch.

the problem with Viv after he left Dio was that he was no longer allowed to be an individual, Whitesnake IS Coverdale's band, and if you did something he didnt like you got fucked, that's why Sykes got booted, because he was better in every aspect than Coverdale was.

and in Def Leppard he had to replace someone, he has had no individuality since Dio.

I remember seeing the Def Leppard thingy on MTV when Viv joined the band and was kinda bent when he made fun of Dio. I love both Lynch and Viv. If you want to compare recent stuff, atleast Lynch is still writing metal songs. The stuff from Def Leppard is just strange.

Well, George's most recent release was Furious George, an all covers cd. All he did was play the solos. He didn't pick the songs or even play rhythm. Plus, the solos were completely uninspired and forgetable.

Funny that Def Leppard's most recent release was also all covers.

as far as Georges latest I think its pretty lame to release an album of all covers and only play the solo's. That would be like me releasing an album wanking over cheap backing tracks....thats no album release if ya ask me

As much as I like Dio, playing last In Line ATM, I prefer Georges playing. Mr. Scary especially. I also really like Jake E. Lee, especially his bad lands stuff.

I generally agree with the covers thing, with the exception of the Rush Feedback EP a couple years ago. It was pretty cool to hear since they have NEVER done a cover before (not on album anyway).

Thanks for the heads-up about FG. Now I won't worry about not having gotten it yet What about that other cover album he did, I believe it was a japan-only release, Will Play For Food? Anyone have/heard that?

Yeah, don't even think about wasting your money on that one. It was like throwing dirt in his fan's eyes. Thanks George.

That was a compilation of various songs from a bunch of different tribute albums he has played on and some other stuff. I'm sure he was selling it on his site before and I've even seen it in a music store in Hollywood, so it was not Japan only. Check his site.

I do like the songwriting and Pilson's singing is awesome. However, George's solos are bland and nothing special.

One of my all time favorite solo's is from last in line, however lynch has wrote more solo's that I love over viv any day. Hell the whole first Lynch mob album smoked anything Viv ever did.

I also loved the playing and tone on back for the attack, what a great album.

With that being said, I still love Viv and he is a great player. I thought I read or heard somewhere that he was or did leave Def Leppard, if true I wonder what he is gonna do next.

It's tough - I'm going to give the nod to Lynch. He doesn't strike me as a rocket scientist, but he sure has some tasty solos.

Viv has more feeling and is raw. Lynch is technically a better player, but Viv is the better musician.

Even when he was in Whitesnake, he would go off on some pretty amazing solos...

Xeno I saw Viv in a different kinda light when I saw him with Whitesnake. I saw Viv a couple time previously with Dio and one time he was excellent except the 2nd time during his solo spot the whte/black Aira guitar with the fiber lights saved his ass cause the guitar got more response than the guitar playing.

On Whitsnake having a good measuring stick and some competition with Vandenberg...Viv was way out classed to my ears and I was almost embarrassed for Viv cause Adrian really handed his ass in spades
