  • Alexi Laiho vs. Chris Holmes...

    Or shredder vs. rocker.

I got the tab to some documentary version of Laiho playing Hellion earlier today so I decided to play that and the Chris Holmes original back to back. Here is the clip:

My band: http://www.diceoffate.comThe first solo is based on what Alexi played in some documentary and the second solo is the Chris Holmes original. I had to...

Thanks to Uros for sending the tab!

Anyway which style do You prefer? IMO Chris has more personality. His sound is unique and his legato runs are a trademark. Alexi is a lot more technical always playing cleanly and on the beat. His solo was easier to learn because the patterns are very common. Both are great!

The contrast between the two was really obvious when playing the solos. The Alexi solo feels like an exercise - very mechanical and there is no feeling to it. Holmes solo is all expression and a great melody. I did an awful job with the bends though.

And Chris Holmes is a nutter too, so he wins. I once shagged a bird who looked just like him. She wasn't exactly overjoyed when I told her.

(It was the bleached hair and eye makeup that did it. Yikes, I can't shake that thought now)

RR0849, you have more Jubilee stuff than me, I am very pissed off. Sell some to me.
So I woke up,rolled over and who was lying next to me? Only Bonnie Langford!

                    I nearly broke her back

                        No question.

Not to mention he is another member of the living dead - the guys that came through the 80's but should have never made it...

Literally!!! Holmes for the win! Randy Piper and Chris Holmes may not have been the most technically savvy players in the world, but leads like the on in "I wanna be somebody" ... shit, I wait like a dog begging for a bone for that lead. They just have feeling, I call them tasty leads. Alexi can shred like a motherfucker, so can a lot of my favorite guitar players, but there really is no feeling! By the way, just listened to Randy Pipers band "Animal", pretty cool stuff. Very W.A.s.P.ish.
