Night Ranger played in Denver last weekend as a part of "A Taste of Colorado", an annual food festival held in the city.
My sixteen year old son (Kyle) is a HUGE Reb Beach fan (truly fanatical...he absolutely idolizes the guy and is trying to learn most of his material) but he didn't know Reb was playing with Night Ranger. We got there early and got a spot in the front row, right where Jeff Watson would normally be set up. When Reb came out to soundcheck, Kyle just about fell over. Reb was super cool and was talking to us from the stage. During the show, he threw 3 picks to Kyle and seemed to play right to him frequently...lots of eye contact and pointing. At one point, Reb wiped his face off with a towel and had a big string hanging from his goatee. I gestured to him by wiping off my own chin...he picked up on it but kept wiping the wrong side! Finally he got it, made an "oops" gesture, and gave the thumbs up...it was pretty funny.
Even cooler, Kyle had asked him if they could get a picture together which Reb said no problem to after the show. About 20 minutes after they left the stage, he came out and hung out for a while, took a few pics with Kyle, and just bs'd in general. I must say he was one of the coolest "rock stars" I ever met. Very humble and down to earth with zero ego. He was super appreciative of the praise that Kyle heaped on him and said he couldn't believe he was even relevant to a modern teenager.
A very cool experience that made a teenage boy about as happy as he could ever be...thanks Reb!!!
As for the show itself, I was very impressed. They were very high energy and played great. Jack Blades is an awesome front man and Gillis still shines as well as he ever did. If you get a chance to check them out, do it.
The pics were taken on my Treo so they are not the greatest quality but still cool. Here you go:
