  • Masters of the whammy bar

Who comes to your mind when you think of a masterfully used whammy bar?

I can start off with Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Maestro Yngwie Malmsteen, Brad Gillis, and probable a few more.......

    Any thoughts?

Let's not forget EVH, without his influence, I don't think it would be as prominent as it is. Also, Michael Lee Firkins, Harry K. Cody and Mattias IA Eklundh are all pretty amazing.

I always thought Richie Sambora was cool with the trem... he doesn´t do the technical stuff some of the guys above do, but he knew where to put the trem licks in his solos and you definitely hear who´s playing.

Reb Beach is worth a mention, too. He´s got alot of trickery going on.

Tommy Skeoch puts it to use on Edison's Medicine.

I always think of Eddie Ojeda's solo in We're Not Gonna Take it when I think of distinctive whammy usage from way way back, not that it was technically superior, just memorable.

Floyd Rose said he gave one to Randy Hansen before Eddie Van Halen got one.
