    P.S. Jimi
Don't know how I could have missed EVH and Jimi Hendrix.....

And Ritchie Blackmore basically started it for heavy rock in the old days , before Floyds, Kahlers and all, and somehow managed to stay in tune. He mentions the tremolo as one of his reasons for switching from his Gibson to a strat. He used to break his whammy bars so often that he had to go to thicker hardened bars that were custom-made for him!

IMO Beck used it more tastefully but a lot less aggressively .........

The DragonForce stuff is fun, but probably would be considered abuse by most people. The guys I would say really put it to more "musical" use (if that really means anything) would be Jeff Beck and Allan Holdsworth.

Dimebag, EVH, Warren Demartini and Robbin Crosby, and, the one that got me hooked on whammy bars, Mick Mars intro to Kickstart My Heart

I identify whammy pulls with Dimebag.
But one of the best subtle uses is David Gilmore.

Chris DeGarmo was pretty good with the Floyd. (Back when Queensryche rocked...)

It all started with Beck and Hendrix, VH took it to a new level, and others hit it out of the park, led by Brad Gillis. Honorable mention would be Reb Beach (ironic he is touring with Night Ranger...two "whammy masters"), Lynch, Vai, Dimebag, and Nuno.

Vito Bratta and Michael Hedges did some cool stuff with the Steinberger Trans-Trem as well.
