I love that clip - cheers to RJD for speaking his mind...finally. Viv's finest moments were on songs provided him by Ronnie; his "work" with Def Leppard is laughable, at best.

Dio slamming Viv

I agree that Dio still kicks ass. He sounds great on the Holy Diver Live DVD, and of course Doug Aldrich slays. What a great player...
I never liked Def Leppard that much. When I was in 6th grade I thought "Me and My Wine" was a cool tune, and I like Pyromania for a while, but I always looked at them as a "chick" band. By the time I was in my teens, I was listening to Dio, Ozzy, Van Halen, and Metallica... that sort of thing. I'm happy that Phil Collen has a signature Jackson, but he never did much for me as a guitar player... except when I was 11. There were and are too many out there that are better soloists AND better songwriters.
I also don't like how these days Joe Elliot acts like the NWOBHM Leppard never existed.

Whoever the fan is that brought up Viv to Dio is the biggest asshole in this whole ordeal. What good was going to come of that? Get your autograph, fanboy, be thankful that Dio is cool enough to care about his fans enough to take the time to do this, and move on.

I remember around the time of the release of Adrenalize that there was a rumor that John Sykes would be joining Def Leppard as the other guitarist. That could have turned out awesome (or not). I wished it would have happened. Vivian is useless to the Leps in my opinion. Or better yet, let me take over on guitar!Breaking Point, my all instrumental CD available here:

So I'm with Dio on this one, after years of restraint and in a casual setting he said what he really thinks one time. Viv has been talking shit that maligned not only his benefactor but his fans for all these years.
And after what, 15 years in Def Leppard, he still can't or won't play the Steve Clark parts correctly? WTF? I could see that if he came up with something better but that certainly hasn't been the case.
I'm a huge Leppard fan and I have read several articles were Viv dumps on rock and metal...and love'em or hate'em but Def Leppard is the biggest 80s metal band in history (IMO).
If Viv is such an idealist about guitar than he should go play blues riffs in his house and let someone else have a chance to rock out with the Leps.

Phil also has put on record some sick extended solos with very kool scale choices ...see White Lightening on Adrenalize and the first track in Retro-Active.
What rock songs are better than Rock of Ages and Pour Some Sugar on Me????? It just doesnt get any better!!

To say Def was the biggest 80's metal band is a little overboard. Actualy i would say it is very close between Motley Crue, Ozzy and Def Leppard.

I know you said your opinion, but I'd imagine AC/DC's Back in Black record comes pretty darn close by itself to eclipsing Def leppard's career album sales. Nothing to base that on though and there's no really accurate data on that anyway.
[Edit] I'm thinking this may be a totally ridiculous statement by me.Last edited by Larz; 10-03-2007, 08:24 PM.Jackson KV2

Phil is a very good guitar player. All you have to do is find a non Def Leppard recording of him. He played great on a Jeff Beck tribute disc I have. Def Leppard is crap.I want REAL change. I want dead bodies littering the capitol.
