Def Leopard are cheesy pop rock/80's hair metal...

And the this band or artist sold more albums so they are better is a null argument, i'd pick AC/DC over def leopard...

And if what most people say is true that Viv has done nothing but mouth off about how he hates metal and dio etc, even though thats the music and person who got him made...

To me AC/DC has changed their sound here and there (not to mention the big differences in the Bon Scott vs. Johnson era) but they haven't needed to change their sound overall, the fans still love it and I know what to expect whenever I want to hear it. Kick ass rock.

I know I'm not gonna get an album that pulls a Queensryche "Hear in the Now Frontier" or a Guns n Roses "Spaghetti Incident" on me.

Does anyone here think that high album sales == great music? If so, then Britney rulez. If not, then who cares?

so 10 times platinum equals 9 million units sold? I have no idea how many albums you need to sell in the US to achieve platinum status.

But regardless, comparing 2 DL albums to 1 AC/DC album can't really be declared a tie. What about total sales on either bands total catalogues? That would be a fair comparison. Or total sales of DL albums compared to the same number of AC/DC's best selling albums. Anything else is just manipulating data to suit your own agenda

Lep and AC/DC are tied? 21 million does not equal 12 million

Do the math.....Hysteria and Pyromania = Back in Black in sales.

Y'know what I think is funny??
How this topic was about Dio hating Viv and it ended up being about AC/DC and Def Leppard....lol.

It truly boggles my mind how Def Leppard is hated by so many people....but in the end they never really wanted to be liked by just metal fans so I guess it doesn't matter.

AC/DC to me is like doing the same job your whole life. It gets old and boring. Def Leppard at least has taken some chances writing an alternative-flavored album in the 90s ( SLANG ) and trying to sound ultra pop ( X ). AC/DC hasn't even used an acoustic guitar....get over your SG Angus...its a lame guitar!

Interesting side note to this conversation...
IIRC, Mutt produced a some AC/DC albums before he did Pyro and Hysteria.
And the Rockman was used heavily on Hysteria, not Pyro.
Listen to the title track for Hysteria... that's a fucking Rockman.
Very hard to reproduce that thin, tin can sound with quality gear.
Dig the song as a whole, but the tone sucked ass.

    2. AC/DC - Back in Black (1980) 21 million copies

    8. Def Leppard - Hysteria (1987) 12 million copies

Lep and AC/DC are tied? 21 million does not equal 12 million

Phil also has put on record some sick extended solos with very kool scale choices ...see White Lightening on Adrenalize and the first track in Retro-Active.
everyone else was ripping off Phil? I caught one of those extended solos on an ebay auction that someone posted in the E-fraid section. It was his solo spot during a concert. I said it then and I'll say it again - Gary Moore-lite. I was half expecting Def Lep to launch into End Of The World at the end of Phil's solo.

Good call! I guess one man's "studio mastery" is another's "over produced crap"

I still listen to Razor's Edge a ton, love that record, the title track, Thunderstruck, Are You Ready, Money Talks, Mistress for Christmas, Fire Your Guns, Rock Your Heart Out, etc.

deflep, I guess you're old enough to have an informed opinion on it, I just disagree and I was a huge Lep fan in their prime.

Every single AC/DC album up through "For Those About to Rock..." is better than any Def Leppard album, and I actually like "High and Dry."

In all seriousness I like AC/DC but there music can't compare to the layered studio mastery of Hysteria and Pyromania.
I personally hate AC/DC for the same reason, they have played the same damn song for 30 Fuckin' years:ROTF:

Judas Priest is where it's at

What rock songs are better than Rock of Ages and Pour Some Sugar on Me????? It just doesnt get any better!!

    Alex
Out of all the Lep songs you could have written, you had to put "Pour Some Sugar on Me" :ROTF: :ROTF: :ROTF:

If you had put Wasted & Too Late For Love I wouldn't have had to reply.
