Guitar legend Les Paul and his partner Mary Ford performed this set live on The Colgate Comedy Hour. The episode was hosted by Abbott & Costello, and is avai...

Les paul and Mary Ford in the early fifties. Watch closely how she easily keeps up with him and when she's about to leave him in the dust (when he breaks a string) he has to stop her.

Note also the prototype Gibsons the two of them are playing.

I don't know if I'd call Mary Ford a shredder, but I enjoyed watching the legendary Les Paul doing a Les Paul style jam session with his wife. He's over 90 years old and he still uses loop machines, and he still holds guitar only jam sessions with numerous aspiring guitarists. I was fortunate enough to meet someone who sat in on one of these sessions. He told me about what a great time he had and about some of the comments Les made about his playing.

I saw him live in a basement that held 28 people in the NYC. You all heard that one before, it was a great night and his band was the stuff.
Not helping the situation since 1965!

I don't know if this is a put-on, but I read in an interview with Les many years ago that Mary didn't play guitar at all at first. He said she tended to be
fidgity on stage, so he gave her a guitar to use, more or less, as a prop to
keep her hands busy. I guess she picked up a few things from her ole man
                  along the way!
