  • Van Halen in Minneapolis

Good show. They were on. Wolfgang was walking all over the stage. Did a good job but definitely no MA. But OK for age 16.
I have seen Dave about 7 years ago. He was great then but his voice was really good this time. He must be practicing. He told a story while strumming an accoustic and then started in on ice cream man.
Alex - Great drum solo. He is really good.
Eddie was definitely not drunk. Jumping all over, laughing and having a hell of a time. At one point he stood there and jumped in the air counterclockwise 360 degrees. Played his Peavey most of the night but did whip out 3 different Charvels for about 5 or 6 songs. The Peavey seemed to have more of a Les Paul tone to it - awesome crunch sounds. The Charvels seemed to be more articulate and cut through better on the solos.
Eddies solos were OK. He is more loosey goosey - personally I prefer more technical players. But where he really shines is the sound scapes he creates between his rhythms, solos and fills. Outstanding. And his tone was friggen killer - some of the best guitar tone I have heard. Up there with Schenker for tone.
They only came out for a one song encore which was a bummer.
    But a good show.

I'm no VH expert, but I'm pretty sure he's not playing Peaveys any more dude. Did you forget your glasses?

Visually the Fender is so dam close to the Peavey, from a distance with him jumping around it would be hard to make out.
            Turn that Sh......... down!

I was there, too. It was a GREAT show! I hate to admit it, but I preferred the sound (though not the looks) of the black, Peavey-esque "4" guitar to the Black/Yellow and White on Black Charvels, both of which sounded overly bright to me. I thought the Frankie that he pulled out for the encore (Jump) sounded the best of any of them. I wish he would've played that all night.

DLR was and is the ultimate frontman. He is a fantastic entertainer. Perfect timing, funny and engaging stage rap, good singing (though he did have trouble with some parts and skipped some parts), and he can even still do those high spin kicks.

EVH was and is the king of rock guitar. I agree with the soundscapes comment. His playing was very fluid, loose and wild, while always musical and always contributing to the song. He was all smiles, appeared to get along great with DLR and Wolfie and looked like he was having a blast.

Alex was amazing, as always. It must be tough to be Eddie's brother, but Alex has always been a fantastic drummer, and still is.

Wolfie was great. He played and sang the parts very well, and the bass and backup vocals lacked nothing.

The set list was wonderful. They played something from all the DLR-era albums, with focus on VH1. There were lots of songs I wanted to hear and didn't, but they would've had to be on stage all night to hit them all (that would've been fine with me).

This may have been the best concert I've ever seen. It is definitely in the top few. I saw VH with Sammy on the Monsters of Rock tour and again on the last tour, and while Sammy is a good singer, this was about 50 times better, IMO. If you have a chance, go see VH on this tour. I had to drive over 3 hours and get a hotel room to see this concert - not to mention paying over $150 for a ticket, which is something I wouldn't normally do, but if I could arrange to see them again on this tour, I would go again in a heartbeat.
