  • VH in Worcester MA Last Night

Killer show! I've never seen VH with Roth before and being a huge Roth era fan it was one of the best concerts I've been to. Ed was a little sloppy here and there but I was VERY impressed with the whole show. Roth makes some goofy faces, but he sounded amazing and the song selection was perfect. Roth is in incredible shape and Wolfgang (although I'd prefer Michael Anthony there) did an excellent job on both bass and vocals. I'd go see them again tonite if I could!

My buddy Chris is the crew chief so he took us behind the scenes, saw all the gear close up as well as the guitars and basses. Then we hung out on the bus for a few hours after the show.

All in all an exceptional night!

Great report Matt. I hope they come down South, so us Rednecks can see 'em!

I was there last night too. I agree, they kicked total ass! EVH played great as stated, but his solo spot thing wasn't what I expected...it was a bit more amorphous than usual, and little "off" for my taste.
His mannerisms and speech kinda questioned if he fell off the wagon...but then again I had nosebleed seats and was going by the jumbotron. Anyone else there have thoughts about this?

I actually had this same conversation with one of the other guys here that went last night. It seemed Ed was really "on" the first half of the show and got a little sloppy as the night progressed. He hit his head on his mic a couple times, did you see that?

I know he's been dabbling with red wine, chances are that's not a good idea after being a major alky for the last 30 years.

Has anybody heard anything about Eddie having a meltdown on stage and yelling at his guitar tech? I heard something about this happening in NJ. yesturday on the radio. So im curious how true it is.

No, but my seats were way across the arena in the corner opposite Eddie so unless it was real obvious or on the jumbotron, I would've missed it. I did see him fling his guitar cable around and it got hung up around the mic stand toward the end of the set.
I agree that his playing was better in the early songs. Like he was spot on for Mean Streets, but Hot For Teacher toward the end wasn'tas good.

Where he tossed a monitor too?? I heard the same thing. I kinda doubt it, or it would have been everywhere by now, or at least I think so.

I heard that as well, but I think it was at the IZOD arena. Where ever that is... NJ? Eddie Trunk was talking about it on his Monday night XM show so I gotta believe it is true.

They were having problems with the tech who was working for DLR and Wolfgang, so a few weeks ago Eddie asked my friend Chris if he'd go to the other side of the stage and gave him a promotion to "crew chief".

The monitor story is true... apparently Ed is a tough guy to work for and when things don't go right he get's pissed. Chris said he was a little relieved when Ed asked him if he'd work for Wolfgang... took some of the pressure off him. Now a guy named Tom is handling Ed's side of the stage, Matt Bruck has assumed the role of personal assistant to Ed, Alex and Wolfgang. The monitor guy is still on the tour, but I'd guess if there's another problem he'll be history. At that level, there's no room for error and if you screw up, you're gone.

Tell you one thing... the VH tour is a huge operation and we got to see it first hand post show. 70 people, 11 busses and 11 semis make it all happen. Pretty impressive watching the whole thing work.
