I know that the 80's were the best, at least i was born in the 80's (84). I would give anything if i could turn back time and spend my teens in the USA 1980-1991.

I must admit I'm really happy growing up when I did and seeing bands like Metallica and Pearl Jam before they only played enormodomes.
Also , today it seems most shows and festivals sell out in hours, whereas back when I was a lad you could pick up tickets almost at anytime.
(it also never rained, Winters were full of crisp deep snow, and nothing bad happened...ever!)

And for sure i appreciate the new stuff..Godsmack, Killswitch..
But if you figure the percentage of what is truly talent...then
today's music is about 25% of what was rutine in the late 70's
The proof is giving it 10 years of time. When they disapear from
off the face of the earth...that says allot! The great bands have
staying power.

Is it me, or was Thin Lizzy kind of like the "working man's Motorhead"?
I somehow missed them, in that round of early eighties concerts. I would
have loved to see them.
And, this will piss someone off, I walked out on Iron Maiden, not once, but twice. And they were not the headliners. I came back both times to catch the headline act, whoever it was.

absolutely , there was a lot of real good talent from the late 70's trhu the early 90's.
I remember in one weekend in 1980 I got to see on Friday night
( Deep Purple with Nazareth)
Saturday night -Black Sabbath.

very close to Halloween 1983. The following week, I saw Black Sabbath/Quiet Riot. What version of Deep Purple did I see? The first reunion? I'm almost sure it was Blackmore and gang. Am I actually thinking 1984? Ug...
At least I know I saw Black Sabbath Nov 9, 1983. I have that stub.

My definition of "coolest thing ever" has changed significantly since ...much cooler to actually meet him in 1987 after a soccer game versus UC Irvine the day after they played at Irvine Meadows...weird cat...still a god on guitar though...
And, since Phil Lynott drank himself to death, and Lemmy still lives, I really have to award Thin Lizzy with the "Drinking Man's Band" award...God bless them both...Crime doesn't pay. Neither does lutherie...

This is a time old debate. When my parents started listening to the Beatles my grandparents told them that it wasn't as good as whatever it was they enjoyed. When I started listening to Megadeth my parents told me it wasn't as good as the Beatles. When my child starts listening to whatever he will listen to I'll tell him it' s not as good as Megadeth and do you see a pattern emerging here It's always the eye of the beholder that matters. Each generation brings its own music with its own taste and values. That's how it's been since Zog the caveman stretched a mammoth skin over a frame and started beating it with a buffalo bone.Last edited by levantin; 11-18-2007, 02:44 PM.I feel festive all year round.
