Well that wouldn't because they are 2 completely different beasts!

Dead Heart is a kind of death metal influenced, modern & dark sounding metal album. (Some call it American Power Metal I call it Modern Metal) You got to check it but don't expect something like Into The Mirror Black

If you're after that sound Politics of Ecstasy and their debut album Nevermore would be your best bet!

I'd like to hear your opinions on those so keep the thread updated dude..
    Check my bands!

Wow - people DO live under rocks! I remember "discovering" that (Sanctuary/Nevermore connection) back in the early 90's.

So I listened to Dead Heart and the results are the same.

The vocals just seem like type O negative too often so that doesn't work for me. I just can't get past it. I really dig the thrashy guitar parts and the vocals that go along with it. Like on We Disintigrate at 1:16 and 1:26 of that song. But then the chorus ruins it for me. Kind of like Type O negative meets Nu Metal type song writing and singing.

The Nevermore debut album is a little easier on my ears. More like the classic style of power metal meets thrash which I'm a fan of both. The Politics of Ecstasy is getting into the vocal style and song structure that I'm not a big fan of right now.

The guitar playing through all of it is pretty damn good though.

I'll probably thow that Nevermore debut disc in rotation though, so thanks for that suggestion!

          What's a Nevermore?

          Who's Jeff Loomis?

          Billy
"Bill, Smoke a Bowl and Crank Van Halen I, Life is better when I do that"
          Donnie Swanstrom 01/25/06..miss ya!

Bunch of metalheads nothing important! :ROTF:

I love nevermore because of their ..ummm... everything?

First of all i am a big Jeff Loomis fan. He is a great guitarist , with his technique and with is writing. He is going to be a real legend in the future.

Riffs are kicks ass, soloing is kick ass and other than that vocals are uniqe (also kick ass ) .Warrel is a great singer. He is singing in a de tuned kinda melody in some parts and i like it a LOT.

Wow, how did anyone not know this?

And I thought Loomis was in Sanctuary before they split up. I remember hearing about how awestruck he was when Mustaine produced one of their albums.

As far as which album to get into Nevermore with, either Dead Heart or Godless Endeavor.

Jeff was going to replace Chris Poland in Megadeth but he looked much too young at the time. So Dave went with Marty. Dave said he didn't want some kid kicking his ass every night on stage.

Jeff was going to join Vicious Rumors just before he took the Sanctuary gig that became Nevermore. That is when he met Steve Smyth.

I met Jeff in '96 when people didn't know who they were..there would only be 50-100 people at there shows on a good night. I went to his lady friend's house to get a camcorder she forgot to bring and recorded the show (came out shitty)..that's when he used his black RR...triaxis preamp/ Mesa poweramp. I talked/drank with the guys everytime they came through town..with some silly stories. I always told Jeff he was amoung the very best in the biz..he always said "Bill, you're crazy"..I guess I am.

The only guitarist I thought kept up with Jeff in NM was Tim Calvert from Forbidden. He has one of my badges and exchanged digits. Unfortunately, He quit because "metal" wasn't paying the bills. He's a pilot for Contintental at that time. So, I grew with the band as a true fan since POE.

Jeff is my very favorite "metal" guitarist and MY main influence for the last 10 years (replacing EVH). I think the dude can shred anyone under the table in the metal kingdom.

Anyone "in the know" always mentions Jeff, but I've yet to see Jeff on a GW cover..which is a shame. Even tho he had his own article for a while. He felt silly because he really didn't know theory and plays by ear. Since then, he learned the basics to explain what he does.

Jeff is a extremely original and gifted player. He's a true natural..he was born to play!

                  NM awesome guys and band.

                    Nevermore, my current Favorite Band.
Loomis rips, Van Williams is a machine behind the drums,
Jim is a much better Bass player than he's given credit for,
Warrels voice................well it grows on you, I wasn't crazy about it at
first but now I think it's part of what defines the "Nevermore sound" and I
actually really like it now. with these guys I think you either "get it" or you don't.
                    I haven't connected with a bands music like I have with Nevermore's
since Van Halen I came out.
The first time I heard "Enemies of Reality" I knew I had found the next group I was going connect with.
Because of this Band I rarely play my 6 string guitars anymore, I've always
got one of my 7's in my hand, it's opened up a new way of looking at the
fret board, that I just took to immediately.
I can't wait for there live DVD to come out and thier next studio album
                    to come out.

on a side note if you want to hear a great instrumental guitar CD check out Steve Smythes' Esseness Project, I just got
that CD and it's ...well it's surprising to me how good he is. The guy has some serious chops, and they wrote some great
                    interesting material.

The EssenEss Project's profile including the latest music, albums, songs, music videos and more updates.

Hey Nick..Warrel Dane has a solo album coming out with Jeff on it!!

I guess that's in the works.

Yeah man..I can't waite to get their fuggin' DVD!!!

We have that in common..The VH/NM connection. They are apples to oranges but both taste great to me!!

Only the two main influences in my mucial life.

I love Uli's playing but that's far beyond my capabilties. So is Ed and Jeff..but I could fake my through SOME of that stuff.

Whenever someone aske Jeff about writing solos..he's always says. "I just go for it"..followed by "That's it"..

With regards to Steve's health, so far so good, , I haven't heard any
news of any setbacks so hopefully he's doing OK (he's a real nice guy)

for anyone not familiar with Nevermore here's a good clip to get your feet wet.

Jeff was in Nevermore for about the last 6 months of their existence.

Dave discovered them and produced their first album, Refuge Denied, and he also played a guitar solo on one song, a cover of Jefferson Airplane's White Rabbit.

I heard they did do a live album (might be called Into The Mirror Live), it's very rare, not sure if it was official or a bootleg. Jeff might have played on that, but I'm not sure.
