Them and Abigail were amazing, I used to wear them out. The vocals were not for everyone, but in the context of his approach (the characters and stories etc) they worked.

I used to listen to Mercyful Fate in the early 80's, and they were a B list band for me, I liked them but they were hardly my favorite. When King went solo I thought it would be lame, but I was pleasantly surprised, I liked it way better.

Welcome Home was so good. One of the best tunes from the 80's.

          King Rocks

I have to admit, back in 1980 I knew this guy that was playing some King on his tape player. I hated the vocals, but the band was tight and the guitarists were amazing. After some time, the vocals didn't really bother me. I actually purchased all his solo cd's and some Fate stuff. I highly recommend The Puppet Master. Great songs, great story, killer guitar playing.

damn Shawn, you just hurt my feelings.

not supposed to be funny at all. 100% serious. metal opera, vocal characterizations, creepy and evil. you need to sit down and listen to THEM all the way through while reading the lyrics. do that once and you'll never think its funny again and you will take it very seriously. it's only funny to those that truly don't get it. Kind Diamond is a true artist.

never gonna happen. Bruce Dickinson and Geoff Tate can sing high and KD's stuff vocally in my opinion isn't in the same league. I have nothing against the band...they kick ass hard but its the vocals that kill it for me...same goes for deth metal cookie monster growling...just not my cup of tea

Abigail is one of my favorite album. Andy's solo on Black Horsemen is one of the best solos I've ever heard.

                  KD fucking ROCKS!!

Two of my faves are The Eye and Puppetmaster.

I too was a little weirded out by his vocals when I first heard him as a teenager. As others have said, once I realized how cool the stories were, and really listened properly, I was a dedicated fan for life. He is a true artist and innovator, and is one of the only really unique singers out there.

His voice is an aquired taste for sure, but if you replaced it with ANYONE ELSE, the songs just wouldn't have the same impact at all.

I've always loved King Diamond, whether by himself or with Mercyful Fate. Great stuff!!

1980, huh, neat trick, as KD didn't go solo until '85, and Mercyful Fate was known as punk band Brats in 1980.

Hooked from day one here, and King is still one of my favourite metal acts. If I'd have to pick my five best metal bands of all time, KD would be one of them.
