It's always been my favorite, too. My least favorites are Necroshine and Relix. They're not bad albums at all, but I just never got into those two as much as everything else they've done, for some reason.

So Horrorscope is better than Feel The Fire? Taking Over? Under The Influence? The Years Of Decay? That was Overkill. To me, at least....

But if you guys say Horrorscope is the shit, I'll have to go find a copy...

But come on.. Feel The Fire is the shit...

All those albums were definitely great, but I think Horrorscope took them to another level.

I agree w toejam. Their early stuff is great. I'm a big fan of Gustafson's. In fact, if I had to pick a guitarist who I play most like lead-wise, at least for the first 10 years of my playing, it'd be him.

Once Gustafson left, a definite element of Overkill was lost, but what they gained w the other g's Cannavino and Gant kicked ass! The first time I saw them live was w these guys on the I Hear Black tour. I saw em at the Troc in Philly and it killed! It was the one of 2 times that I ever stage dived....come to think of it, I haven't seen this allowed at shows since. They opened up w New Machine from Horrorscope.
"Your work is ingenius…it’s quality work….and there are simply too many notes…that’s all, just cut a few, and it’ll be perfect."

For sure. It wasn't just the change in members either. They became darker somehow. I believe most of Horrorscope is played in D, whereas their earlier stuff was in E. I could be wrong, it's just a guess.

I think the songs on Horrorscope are E and Eb. Maybe one song like Horrorscope or something else is possibly in D or Drop D, but I can't remember.

Skullkrusher from The Years of Decay I believe was in C, and Spiritual Void from I Hear Black was Drop C. I really haven't tried playing much of their newer stuff, but I think they're still pretty much in E and Eb.

There goes my stupid theory. :ROTF:

Maybe it's just the songwriting of Cannavino and Gant.

It's a dark sounding album, most likely due to the way Blitz and D.D. wanted it.
Those two have always been the core of the band and know what they're looking for. They get their signature Overkill sound no matter who else is in the band.

Thats the thing with Biltz, you either love him or hate him. I have some friends who don't like Overkill because they can't stand Bobbys voice. But I say FUCK THE PEN, AND LIVE AND DIE BY THE SWORD!!!

                            Sorry, got off topic there...

I dig Biltz and DD quite a bit. It's a hard thing for a bassist to get a signature sound. DD has that. You hear DD, you know it's DD. I always knew it was really his and Bobbys band. But when you're a guitarist, you tend to gravitate to the guitarist, at least I do. So when Gustifson left, it was a bummer for me. Then they went the 2 guitar route. I think I remember them wanting to do that with Gustifson but he didn't want to. Typical guitarist ego. But I was pissed because I always thought they were on the edge of superstardom after The Years Of Decay. I thought they could have been almost Metallica huge with another effort like that one. But who knows. I could be full of it....

I hear ya. I loved Gustafson, too, and I also thought they should have gotten a lot bigger like Metallica. Gustafson was best friends with Hetfield, and Hetfield's influence totally showed on The Years of Decay... at 3:50 in E.vil N.ever D.ies, there's the blatant Master of Puppets rip-off (the riff that goes with "master, master, where's the dreams that I've been after").

Yep, no doubt about it. Decay had Metallica all over it. I was hoping they would be more Metallica then Metallica was at that time...

EDIT: I just checked that riff and you're right! All the time listening to that song, I never heard the Master rip-off...

Anyone know why he left? I think I remember something about creative differences. Then I also heard the guys wanted another guitarist and Gus wasn't up for that. Anyone know for sure?
