  • Really Early Sambora Solo!

I found this video on youtube of a short spotlight solo Richie did back in '85. Ok, it's not a complete shred-fest, but it gives a nice insight into pre 'Slippery...' Richie:

Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.

    And on the 8th day,
God kicked back with a beer,
And gave that Jackson one helluva beating!

Les Paul's just don't look right unless they're low slung. Nice solo though, shame he doesn't play like that nowadays. I don't understand how guys like him can spend all that time getting chops like that, then playing boring crap like modern Bon Jovi. He needs to get together with "Jaymz" Hetfield and have a few beers, then pickup a couple of guitars.

Yeah that's the point. Maybe a few beers will get him playing again!

Seriously, I don't want to make light of alcoholism - my dad was one and I haven't seen the prick since I was 5 - but as a fan of old Metallica and old Bon Jovi, for the sake of the music these guys ought to get the beers in.

Not that I enjoy any of it, Bon Jovi has done a fantastic job of giving their aging audience what they want. New BJ music is pretty strong on production and song writing, just not my cup of tea.

That being said, Sambora still lives to solo and is better now than then.

He plays melodic solos that drive the songs forward. Of course, there's no accounting for taste, so your mileage may vary

I saw them in 85 when they opened for Ratt. My ears hurt from all the chicks screaming. Great show.

He always struck me as a real professional. An all around great player who always played exactly what the song needed.

Richie is a great player, but I never really dug him that much as a guitar god like Lynch or Warren. But I always thought Richie's backup vocals were awesome, and helped shape Bon Jovi's overall sound.

And yeah, I was a that RATT/BJ tour also in Des Moines, Iowa. From the link below you can see that the exact night was Sept. 20, 1985 and wow look at the ticket price!!!
