Since this section is a little slow and people have been starting some underwhelming clips of some heroes (just one man's opinion) here's a hero of mine in a relatively new clip. Made my day a couple back. Ohm's new record should be out pretty soon.

nice to see what he's been up to. I loved the early Megadeth but lost track of him after one of his Metalopolis(?) albums which I bought but could not get into.
he's great technically and creates neat moods in that vid, but somehow just not my cuppa tea. little bit too much noodling.the guitar players look damaged - they've been outcasts all their lives

I'm a huge Megafan and Marty is the best guitar player to me but today I watched lots of videos of his new stuff and then saw this one, wish he was up to something like Poland Marty's new stuff is just mediocre if not shitty and that makes me sad
About Poland, I agree his playing is great, his style is really distinctive but I don't agree with the comments about his phrasing (not that good imo)

The liner notes for their last album credit the influence of Cream, and Kofi Baker is in fact the son of Ginger Baker. IMO, they play in the same spirit of Cream, but not stuck inside the blues box that Clapton lives in. I hope they can keep things going - they are one of the best fusion bands around.
That clip might be a bit boring, but he does some things, when I saw it the first time I thought, I want to steal. Poland has a great touch, with pick attack, with the bar and with bends. He does some insane bends.

That clip was fantastic! I can understand not liking it if you are into more conventional rock stuff, but for those of us who live in the world of Allan Holdsworth/Shawn Lane legato jazz shred, Chris Poland is a frickin' monster guitarist. He's moved far beyond anything he did with Megadeth. Marty Friedman, scary chops and all, could never play anything that fluid and 'free', based on what I've heard from him.

Anyway this thread is not about Marty so I'm not gonna say Marty anymore
One last thing, I'd love to see Poland with Megadeth instead of Glen Drover

Why does every thread or discussion of Chris Poland seem to end up in a Chris vs Marty debate? Not slamming anyone in particular, and it's not too bad here (yet), but the youtube comments all seem to end up stuck on the meaningless debate. They are about as completely different as any two soloists I can think of, and they're both great. I'd also add that they are probably two of the least likely metal players (or former metal players) to view their chops or their music as a competition. They are both artists in the true sense of the word, and Mustaine was lucky to have had them on board for the time he did.
