Defenders is my fav, I remember being 16 and trying to figure out all these new sounds they were getting. Great riffs and a huge leap forward in their soloing.

But I was more of a Point Of Entry fan. They seem to hate that album but it's my favorite...

Unleashed In The East is brilliant, as someone mentioned...
You are reading my mind here. I absolutely rank POE as my all time favorite album.

Of course Screaming for Vengeance, Unleashed, and British steel are right there. I give the edge to screaming on that.

Defenders is right behind for me. I do think it was another transition album, it started to get "cartoony" for me though on that release.

I actually listened through Turbo the other day, and it was a lot stronger than it gets credit for. Reckless is a great rocking tune.

        you knew that.

Even worse is lip-synched,band synched recordings being played on stage, as if the band were actaully playing live...now that is the utimate rip off!
"Yeah, here's the tapes from the gig, moight need to do the odd overdub, orrrrioiiight?"
"Arr, orrrroiight mate" (They are Brummy accents, not Oirish)
        FOUR MONTHS RECORDING LATER......
        "Unleashed...." :ROTF:

Worse thing about lip-synching bands is when they ask to "top & tail" shows, ie. switch the mics on for them so they can say hello, then again to say thanks and goodbye. Generally they have no idea of which end of a mic to use, have no mic technique, so you can't leave the mic open in case they are waving them around in front of wedges (or FOH stacks!!!!). Generally they are in love with the sound of their own voices and love to try and say things between verses so you have to watch like a hawk to open the mic for them at the right moment. (Or not, if you are me and reading the paper at the time, only watching the countdown on the MD) The worst thing is, they actually think they have just done a gig after miming to 2 tracks at a radio station roadshow. (We are talking boy-bands here) Twats.

Not that there's any suggestion Priest do anything of the sort, that's a world away from even an LP like "Unleashed.." which is just heavily "tidied up" in the studio.

Priest still fucking blow my socks off every time I see them.
I saw them in Birmingham a few years ago, before Rob left, in a nightclub, (capacity 400, must have been 1000 people in there - certainly felt like it!) and the sound was mental. He was hitting some high notes that were simply ear-splitting, and the band were tight as a drum.

Difficult to say which is my favourite Priest LP, there's just too much strong material, but I regularly listen to "Stained Class" and even more to "Killing Machine". Damned good.

(Giving "Defenders..." an airing right now, thanks to this thread)
So I woke up,rolled over and who was lying next to me? Only Bonnie Langford!

My favorite Priest album! I saw them 7/31/1984 in Salt Lake City. I think it was Kick Axe opening. I will never forget the image of Rob walking out of The Metallion singing "Love Bites" - an amazing concert.

the thing I heard that makes me believe that atleast Rob's Vocals were live on Unleashed, was when he screwed up the words to "The Ripper". I don't think they would've done that in the studio!

anyways, Priest is the greatest "heavy metal" band EVER (they define the sound a hell of a lot more than Sabbath does, Victim of Changes is badass as fuck, and no one in the word can denie that. I have 15 albums and counting ( I need Jugulator, Priest...Live!, and Rocka Rolla)

my favourite Priest album? well that's tough, when they are you're favourite band, but I think I'm the minority when I say "Painkiller"! especially with my Runner up as SWOD, and then Rocka Rolla!

Are you like me in that your love for POE comes from early Mtv? When it first started, they played Preist all the time. You could catch the vids for Hot Rockin', Heading Out To The Highway, and the uber rare Don't Go on Mtv all the time. First time I heard Hot Rockin' it was over. I know some think of it as a corny song, and it is, but it's kick ass corn, no doubt...

"Don't Go" is the one where they are in the sauna, isn't it, or is that "Hot Rockin"? Either way, that's a very dodgy video.

That was Hot Rockin'. They were in a gym working out. Yep, pretty dodgy vid. But back then, I didn't look at stuff that way, I guess. I was more into the song than the video. But I didn't look at something as gay or not. I guess I'm more jaded now...

The Don't Go video had them singing in a room with a bunch of doors with Exit signs over them. I remember KK going through one and being in a room full of bunnies. Not Playboy but real bunnies. They did strange shit back then...

Defenders is one of my top 5 albums of all time, just blew away so much of what was going on at the time, still kicks ass to this day, not a bad song on there. Great dual guitar work. Priest was so damn good for so long, comparing their early, mid and late stuff is so diverse.
